Fashion Week London: Luella Bartley Spring 2010 Ready to Wear ...

    image

Luella Bartley recently presented her Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Collection at London Fashion Week. Her new collection goes dressier and less cheeky than we've come to expect from Bartley. It would be easy to imagine the late Jackie Kennedy wearing these pieces in 1965. Silhouettes were very feminine, with princess seams, pinched waists, and padded hips. She also showed several summer weight car coats in very ladylike "trapeze" shapes in happy, gorgeous colors, like a not-too-baby blue and a wonderful lipstick-y red. Other pieces included puffy dresses with velvet polka dots, sweetheart necklines, and Peter Pan collars. Bartley's recent collections have been far more precious with an abundance of frilly touches like dainty flower prints, ribbons, and tulle. By comparison, the latest collection is much more dressed up, despite the sugar pinks and lemon yellows. Even the one or two dresses with tulle trim appeared more sophisticated than one might expect from a designer who does things in an unapologetically girly way. Vintage Fashionistas Are Walking On Sunshine!

By now you must know that yellow is THE color of the season. Fashion runways all over New York and Europe showed clothing and accessories in every shade from dandelion to canary, sunflower to goldenrod. And while Reese Witherspoon and Cate Blanchett have rocked stunning yellow dresses on the red carpet, most women I know still believe that yellow doesn't look good on them. Au contraire! Anyone can wear any color; it's just about picking the right shade to flatter your hair and skin tone. So while your brunette best friend might look great in a Crayola shade, if you're a fair-skinned blonde, you'll want to go a bit brighter. And if you're still feeling afraid to wear little ol' yellow, spice up your look with some sunshine-colored accessories or a print that has yellow as only one of its dominant hues. The slide show has loads of vintage finds to get you buttered up. Just click to see the selection!

Can you believe that summer is almost over? Soon those lovely summer weekends will be gone and the summer blockbuster movies will seem like a distant memory. But before you go into hibernation and say goodbye to the floaty sundresses, flip flops and bikinis, we still have a good couple of warm weeks ahead of us (unless you live in San Francisco like me, the fog is about to lift and summer about to start all over again)! Relish this last month of warm weather with some truly summery citrus accessories. Lemon colored baubles and a tangerine clutch add a nice summery punch of color that makes you feel like you are headed for the beach! For more lemon, lime and tangerine touches check out my slideshow!

Vintage Style: Sunshine Finds for Vintage Fashionistas

It's that time of year when the Back to School sales are in full swing. And while I'm won't be stocking up on any yellow No. 2 pencils, I am inspired to sport something in the sunshine shade during the remaining carefree days of summer. Yellow is a surefire attention-getter (which is why there are so many yellow taxicabs on our streets) but that also makes it especially tricky to wear. Try pairing it with neutrals for a chic ensemble or with navy for a nautical look. And if you think you can't wear yellow because it washes you out, don't give up without a fight. With choices that range from banana to canary, you are sure to find a sunshine shade that is just right for you. Still need some inspiration? Then click the SLIDESHOW for a collection of yummy yellow vintage finds.

Stylediarist Spotlight: Juicygal Squeezes the Runway Into ...

A fantastical mixture of neon, metallics, and some very unique runway looks, Juicygal makes what most wouldn't even dream of wearing during the light of day, amazingly everyday-friendly. This Stylediarist is an obvious color (and Karen Walker) lover and is a hardcore print mixer. She has fun with larger-than-life plaid bows, brightly colored tights, even brighter flats and wedges, plus accessories galore! She borrows looks and pieces inspired by many different eras, especially from the 80's, and makes them uniquely her own. If you are looking for some fun ways to really wear color, you won't be disappointed. Find some of my favorite looks that she's concocted in the SLIDESHOW, and you'll see that this girl brings the party with her.

Is it just me, or is there a bit of a color war brewing between this season's hot hues? Mere minutes after declaring yellow the top color trend, Women's Wear Daily arrives on my desk claiming orange is the new shade to crave. Then black and white and cobalt catch up and our worlds are thrown into a colorful chaos, but rest assured, peace has finally been restored in purse-land, because Bagtrends has named the top three winners in the battle of the bags. Click on over to Bagtrends now and see which colors came out on top.
