Don't you just love seeing Project Runway castoffs rise from the ashes and really do something with their talent? We've seen plenty of Christian Siriano in the fashion week circuit, and even some strange Santino Rice cameos on various reality shows.. but now it's Jerell Scott's turn. The season 5 veteran launched his Fall 2009 collection at One Take Studio in downtown LA this past weekend over drinks and hors d'oeuvres... and an opening performance by Macy Gray! The intimate venue provided guests with an up-close look at the collection, including an accompanying photo exhibit by E Leon Myers and even an exclusive sneak preview at his upcoming Spring 2010 line. Inspired by indigenous people all over the world, the collection boasted flowing fabrics, bold prints and an undeniable tribal energy that foreshadowed many innovative and promising things to come from the designer! Take a look at the slideshow for some pictures of the event and his collection!

Travel Around The World In The Comfort Of Your Own Home!

It's time to spice things up at home, and not just in the bedroom either! While we would all love to be jet-setters and fly off to exotic places halfway across the world, it is not a possibility for many of us due to money, time or both. Although the mysticism of far away lands may be enticing, but not quite within reach at the moment, these sumptuous luxuries and richly saturated materials can be brought back and enjoyed in your own home. With ethnic African and safari-inspired prints that make your living area feel like a trip to the savannah, richly saturated and beautifully decorated rugs and home accents that make you feel like you're laying back in a Persian palace, and the minimalist sophistication of Asian-inspired pieces that help give you a peaceful and meditative state, you can take a trip around the world in the comfort of your own home. Click on the slideshow to see some home decor that will add the alluring glamour of distant destinations to your living space.

Hot In The Hive: World Time Clock

    image

While I've been living in the same place for over a year now, I've left many good friends scattered across time zones around the world. That means I really have to make sure I know what time it is before I call them to catch up. (Remember, no one likes to be woken up at 5 a.m.!) That being said, it's not very practical or space effective to have a clock for every time zone on my wall. If you're a frequent traveler, then I imagine you're always turning the dials on your clocks and watches whenever you land in a new place. That being said, the Museum of Modern Art store has the perfect solution. The World Time Clock features 12 sides listing 24 major cities around the world. The 24 cities also represent the 24 world time zones. Just face the city you want upwards and you've got the time! Now if only there was something that could cure jet lag...

    Price: $66.60 - $74

We all want to travel the world, but sometimes we have to settle for scoring those foreign pieces from the comfort of our desks. Embroidery is a perfect way to exude that chic traveler look. Today's Hive 5 features five wonderful dresses that can be delivered to your house with a few clicks of your mouse. Slip on Nanette Lepore's Dazzle Me dress, fawn over Matthew Williamson's black and blue tunic dress and black chiffon number, JMM's vintage inspired dress will snag compliments galore, and Odd Molly's creme colored garment will certainly impress for day. While I'm sure we'd all prefer a plane ticket, these dresses are a pretty fabulous alternative. Check out the SLIDESHOW to see them for yourself.

    image

Thumbing through the Aussie Stylediary pages, I noticed that a lot of really cute outfits were quite neutral in color. Down under, the palate may be very muted, but this international style screams posh as well as super feminine. Well, I don't know if it's because they're sick of bright colors from living in a perpetual summer, but throw some of those lovely beiges, greys, blacks, creams, taupes, and whites stateside! Check out seven Australian Stylediarists and their toned down pieces that would be sure to boost any wardrobe, in my slideshow!

On The Last Day Before Xmas I Hope My True Love Gets For Me: ...

This year, the most coveted gift isn't an "it" bag, can't be found at Saks, is rare in certain areas, and many are dying for a piece of it. But if you look around, you'll find that it's not as elusive as you may think. Still stumped? It's peace. And while it's quite an abstract idea for a gift, there are so many ways to give it, and it looks good on everyone, whether they've got the seventies hippie/boho bug or are just an anything but average activist trying to make a difference. It just takes a little thought, some consideration, and a look through our slideshow of ways to add some peace to the lives of your friends and family, and maybe even to people all over the world. Happy holidays from Stylehive!
