The New York weather may be frightful (understatement?), but you know what they say -- the fashion show must go on! Fashion Week invitees who truly live and breathe fashion are trudging their skinny behinds to the shows despite whatever the sleet and snow are hurling in their direction. So the biggest must-have on every attendee's checklist (aside from invites to the most sought-after shows) is definitely some cold-weather outerwear. But when you're rubbing elbows with the likes of Anna Wintour and other high-profile front-row voyeurs, you can't just show up in any coat. In fact, you'd probably be safer going naked than being seen wrapped up in Uggs and a Snuggie, for example. Stand out in trendy leopard print with a Chloe wool-blend coat, or show off your feminine side with a ruffled trench by Oscar de la Renta. Extravagance is key, so unfortunately you'll have to leave your "frugalista" tendencies behind if you want to make the best impression -- or be really good at faking it! There's something about tweed that undeniably conjures up images of wintertime coziness... not to mention old-fashioned office attire and your grandma's go-to outfit for Sunday brunch. The good news is, however, that tweed has been updated to suit the styles of modern trends -- from platform pumps to boyfriend blazers -- and has expanded beyond its traditional use in plain ol' pea coats and conservative skirt suits. The great thing about the fabric is its ability to makes items still look office-appropriate without appearing stuffy, yet it can also be dressed up with metallic details for a night out, or thrown on last minute for an upgrade of your usual "just rolled outta bed" look.
