Furnish Your Flat With The Help Of Cliff Spencer Furniture

Furniture maker mavens Cliff and Leigh Spencer design with our future in mind and sustainability is the key. The husband and wife duo, based in scenic seaside Marina Del Rey, California, live and work by a single philosophy: live simply. But that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice quality or style. By bringing an eco-aware flair to their custom cabinetry and furniture pieces, the natural beauty of the wood takes center stage. Working with traditional (walnut, cherry, maple) and non-traditional (mesquite, eucalyptus, sycamore) woods, they create luxury items out of something you use every day. Cool Coasters That Keep Your Furniture (And Your Drink) Happy

    image

With the beautiful weather these days, I've been keeping cool by wearing cute summer dresses and staying barefoot as long as possible. I've also been making use of my ice maker and blender to stay cool. Smoothies, iced tea, you name it and I've made it (or plan to!). Nothing beats sitting down with a cold drink, a fun book, and the afternoon passing by. But wait, don't forget the coaster! Nobody likes excess moisture, especially your wood furniture. Whether you have a valuable antique or a cheap Craigslist find, your furniture is supposed to last. Quite unlike the fast fashion scene we've been experiencing, it's hard to buy and then throw away your furniture after a season or two. So that's why we've got to take care of it to keep it in shipshape. Take a look at the set of slate coasters from Crate and Barrel. You can keep track of the owners of each drink by writing your name on the coaster with a piece of chalk. Another favorite are the pinecone shaped coasters made out of durable vinyl. Take a look at my slideshow for more!

Hot In The Hive: Molave Ring Vase

    image
Anna Yu on Apr 10, 2009 6:24 AM PDT
When I look at decor magazines or even the Ikea catalogs, it seems that stark minimalism is everywhere. I'm talking about bare walls, white lacquer furniture and really uncomfortable looking sofas. While I can definitely appreciate the simple and clean lines of modern decor, I like some organic shapes too. Then again, I don't want my living room to look like a ski lodge or hunting trophy room either. That's why the Molave Ring Vase is perfect for nature lovers with minimalist tastes. The vase features sustainable Philippine molave wood and a recycled glass cylinder. They even kept the bark on for a authentic rustic look! Best part is, you don't have to spend an arm and a leg for it (it's doubly guilt-free!). So keep your walls bare and set this vase down on your glass side table to create a room even the Swedish have to appreciate.

    Price: $59

Lumberjack-Inspired Looks That Don't Recall Wood Chopping... ...

    image
    Dino-Ray Ramos on Feb 13, 2009 3:17 PM PST
When you think of the word "lumberjack," you picture burly men heaving logs and sawing trees in half whilst in the company of a big, blue ox. In my case, I just start singing that one line in Notorious B.I.G.'s legendary song "Juicy" in my head over and over again (you know how it goes: way back/when I had the red and black lumberjack/with the hat to match). Even though those images are ingrained in our heads, the fashion community has embraced this buffalo check pattern in sartorial ways that are hip and cool. We no longer have plain log rolling red and black flannels. Instead, we have buffalo checked messenger bags, hoodies that use black and white instead of red and black and lumberjack shirts that don't say "I'm going to eat a big pile of pancakes before I chop some wood." Here are some lumberjack-chic items that may not make you as strong as the Brawny man, but will make you look like a posh Paul Bunyan.
