Go Red, White And Chic For The Fourth Of July!

    image
Pauline Montupet on Jun 28, 2009 9:21 AM PDT
Every year, the fourth of July rolls around and I'm left rummaging through my closet that consist of mostly neutrals and end up showing up to a fourth of July party looking dressed for a funeral and not a BBQ. Quite often the thought of parading around in extraordinary bright colors and mixed patterns and still looking fashionable is extremely daunting. After reviewing some of the spring runway shows I see that red white and blue, when not taken too literally with stars and stripes, can be amazingly chic. Taking cues from Michael Kors' retro Pleasantville-with-a-twist look, I'll be able to put together a fantastic 4th of July ensemble. I'll make the "Plaza Estie" striped skirt the cornerstone of my outfit-- it covers all the necessary colors for the holiday and its flared puffy skirt will leave lots of room for hot dogs and potato salad. A ballet flat with a loud print like Betsey Johnson's circle flat can funk up the primness of the skirt and is great for outdoor events because the last thing you want is your stilettos getting stuck in the grass. Top the look off with a plain white tee, grab a red, white, and blue bikini for a dip in the pool, and you're looking as festive as the fireworks. Check out the slideshow for how to get the look, and other chic red white and blue picks!

Spring Essential: A Fresh White Tee!

    image
Natalie Zee Drieu on Apr 8, 2009 5:25 AM PDT
An essential piece to your spring and summer wardrobe is the white t-shirt. But not just any ol' one. White tees are cropping up with all sorts of beautiful embellishments from ruffles to ruched details. I love the fitted stylish look of this J.Crew slub cotton crossover v-neck tee ($38). Paired perfectly with jeans or a flowery spring skirt and you have an instant fresh wardrobe! For other alternatives, try an asymmetrical style with the one shoulder tee from TopShop ($32) or the comfy yet pretty rustled breeze top from Anthropologie ($68). Don't forget to check out Coquette for more hot spring finds!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Ralph Lauren Recalls A Cooly ...

    image
Amber Fijolek on Feb 26, 2009 1:19 PM PST
Fall fashion in terms of Ralph Lauren is headed in a gloomy direction -- well, in terms of color. The collection left an icy after-taste, as the pieces extended themselves along a narrow span of black to white hues, many of them embossed with an illustrious and silvery palette no different than our own images of a Icelandic princess figure. However, lifeless colors like ash and beige were brought to life with Ralph Lauren's show at New York Fashion Week. The fabrics recalled a time associated with an empire run by Russian monarchs, including luxurious silk, lace, fur, and velvet textures. The time element was also hinted in Lauren's rendition of vintage elite with the use of bishop sleeves and coats embellished with eyelet-hook buttons. While it's difficult to do gowns in an unfeminine way, some dresses, and most separates, lacked a feminine quality, as they fearlessly drew attention to broad shoulders, mannish chests, and trousers unfitted in the waists. Interestingly enough, the glamour was brought back with Lauren's use of glittering accessories: elegant, strappy shoes, beautified belts, and exquisitely placed embroidered gems. The collection is sure to melt the ice-cold-chroma dominated collection with thick scarves, knit sweaters, sumptuous velvets and parka-like ponchos that screamed Eskimo empress.

J.Crew has already made a splash with their bridesmaid dresses, and now they have a full line of gorgeous wedding dresses. In sumptuous fabrics, the line features ivory, crisp white, and even a champagne dress or two. All are of high quality silks and chiffon, and feature classic silhouettes, as well as some modern twist on traditional bridal gowns. My favorite is the 'Lucinda' gown, a pocketed classic ball gown which pleats and falls elegantly into a full shape. Best of all, the line starts at just $295, up to $2995, so there's sure to be something for everyone's taste and budget! To see more of J.Crew's fabulous wedding dresses, check out my slideshow!

The Perfect Eye Makeup for YOUR Eye Color!

Kristin on Oct 10, 2008 6:26 AM PDT
With so many eye makeup choices out there, sometimes it's hard to know where to begin! Well, as always, we've got you covered. You just have to know which shades work best for your individual eye color. If you have a pair of beautiful baby blues, go dark and smoky with some kohl eyeliner by Chanel to really make them pop. If you have those enviable green or hazel eyes, try purple shadow or even mascara, like the new one by Benefit. And if you're a classic brown-eyed girl, why not try a wash of ethereal blue or a trendy bright for a great contrast! For a basic go-to, pick up a nude and brown eye palette, fabulous for any eye color. And here's a sly trick to make any pair instantly bigger and brighter... just line the inner rims of your eyes with a shimmery white pencil. Voila! Now check out the slideshow for my five favorite eye makeup products in the Hive - and grab the ones that are perfect for YOUR eye color!

The Rock & Republic look radiated FIERCE sex appeal with a side of serious confidence. Overall, this collection will definitely inspire all to start hitting the gym now in order to pull off these killer pieces come spring.
