Chic Curtains Add Style And Shade To Your Room

    image
Anna Yu on Aug 19, 2009 10:24 AM PDT
Do you ever wake up with the sun in your eyes? Sure it may be a natural wake up call, but surely there are days where you just want to sleep in. That means you should cover up those naked windows with some chic curtains! Curtains can shield your eyes (and your furniture) from the harsh sunlight, keep the cold or heat out, and make any room look more put together. Shopping for window treatments can be confusing so make sure you measure all the windows and bring the measurements with you to the store. It also helps to bring swatches of any furniture you have in the room to make sure none of the colors clash with your new curtains. Besides getting curtains, don't forget the curtain rods, finials, holdbacks, and tiebacks. Take a look at my slideshow to see them all.

10 Cool Coffee Tables For Your Living Room

    image

Under all the newspapers, magazines, books and junk mail, I know there's a coffee table somewhere. But with all the water rings and chips, maybe it's better off hidden under paper, or maybe I should start looking for a replacement I'd be proud to show off! Coffee tables come in all shapes and sizes depending on the size of the room and needs of the user. They can offer lots of storage or just act as a surface for your drinks and a place to prop up your feet! They also come at various price points from less than $200 to $12,000 (we can always dream, can't we?). With all the summer entertaining going on, now's the perfect time to upgrade from that poorly self-assembled Ikea find or worse, milk crates. Just remember to use a coaster to maintain the longevity of your coffee table. Take a look at my slideshow for coffee tables straight from the Hive!

Spend Time In Your Backyard Or Patio With New Outdoor Furniture

After a long and cold winter and spring quickly passing us by, it's finally getting nice enough to spend more time outdoors! From lounging by the poolside to spending some serious time at the grill, nothing beats spending time in your very own backyard. But if you've recently discovered that your outdoor furniture didn't survive the winter (cracked wood or rusted metal), then it's high time to upgrade. I've also got some buying tips to make sure you get the most bang out of your buck. When buying metal furniture, look for labels that say they're powder coated and rust resistant. For wood furniture, teak is best, but it's also very expensive and slow growing. Instead, look for eucalyptus wood, which is sustainable and is water resistant. Who says outdoor furniture has to be hard and uncomfortable? I'd be happy sit on the Corsica Outdoor Oversized Chair all day long. In need for seating space and storage? Get the Chesapeake Bench Ice Chest which keeps all your drinks ice cold and the lid lowers into an extra seating space. Check out my slideshow for more outdoor furniture ideas. Just remember to store everything in a safe place in the winter so you don't have to buy new outdoor furniture every year!

Sometimes, I'm so bored that I can just stare at the wall all day. Which got me thinking, wow- I should really mix things up. I've done some research and come up with some really cute wall decor items - from prints to fun shelves to sconces - and compiled them in this slideshow. The best part? All the items I feature are $99 or less. It's nice to know that you can brighten up a room with a mirrored sunburst or nature-inspired gilded lacquer prints without breaking your design budget. Think of the gorgeous light reflection you'll achieve in your room with a metallic flower mirror. Check out my slideshow for more wall decor that won't break your budget!

Take A Trip To Morocco Without Leaving The Room!

Do you go to a bookstore and always wander to the travel section? Or when people ask you where you got an article of clothing, your answer is always from a different country? But like most people, the heart is willing, but the wallet isn't very giving. If you can only afford to go to Paris, Texas this summer, then it's only right for us to bring the world to you. Today's stop on the world tour is Morocco! Known for their tile print motifs and bright colors, Moroccan influences can be easily found in home decor pieces. Think of getting some gauzy linen curtains, lanterns in every corner, and bright pops of orange and red. The large Agadir Pouf from Anthropologie can be used as an ottoman or floor seating for extra guests. Another favorite pick is a bold medallion rug, appropriate for your entryway or dining room. Check out my slideshow for more Moroccan-style picks for your home!

Modern, Non-Stuffy Wing Chairs For Stylish Lounging

For some reason, wingback chairs have gotten an unfortunate reputation for being in the homes of the old and stuffy. Your grandfather may have had an imposing tufted leather wingback chair you wouldn't dare touch. But the old and stuffy were definitely onto something with these chairs. They're designed to be super comfortable and offer some great support in case you ever dose off. The winged nature of the chair gives a place for your head to rest when you start tilting to the side. Now you know why your grandfather loved that chair so much! These days, you don't have to look stodgy when sitting in a wing chair. In fact, many styles these days mesh well with your modern decor. Some like the Painted Dot iChair with built-in speakers from PB Teen are downright playful! Another one of my favorites is the Lambert recliner for maximum comfort when reading or taking a quick nap. For more modern takes on a traditional wing style, check out my slideshow!
