Trendy Tie-Dyed Pieces That Don't Look Like You Made Them At ...

What is it about tie-dye that seems to just ooze summer spirit? I don't know if it's the bright colors or the fond memories of wringing out freshly-dipped t-shirts on the backyard lawn, but I was always secretly rooting for a tie-dye comeback that didn't look too homemade or too hippie. As if the almighty trendsetters read my mind (it's about time!), tie-dye has been sprouting up all over the place -- high-end and affordable retailers alike -- in every place imaginable, from shoes to shades! While stereotypically the print has always been associated with peace signs, flower children, and campy arts and crafts, this season it's keeping it casual with thong sandals and dressing it up in the form of sexy minidresses. Still not convinced? Take a look at the slideshow and see for yourself how today's tie-dye has gone from hippie to hip!

Bright-Rimmed Sunglasses Put A Summery Spin On Shades

You may think you've got it covered in the sunglasses arena with your trusty rimless aviators and black wayfarers that you switch off depending on your mood and outfit. However, while that 90's comeback fad of blinding neon clothing slowly fades out this summer, bold colors are finding a new outlet -- your shades! This season's sunglasses are all about bright frames and rims, and with all the brands jumping on this technicolor trend (high-end and super-affordable alike!), you're bound to find yourself getting bored with your tortoise shell shields fast. Go for designer pair in your favorite or most wearable color, or collect a whole rainbow's worth of shades to go with any outfit! They're not only a great way to draw attention and exude personality even while hiding behind your glasses, but they're also a surefire way to get into the poolside mood, pronto! Check out the slideshow to see a variety of some vivid frames!

    Retro Sunnies With Throwback Appeal

    image

It seems as though the deeper we get into the 21st century, the more we sample trends from past decades-- and it is ever apparent with sunglasses (or as our Aussie folks say, "sunnies"). These days, people look like they are extras in a John Hughes films with their wayfarers or paying homage to Maverick and Goose in "Top Gun" with their aviators. There is nothing wrong with wearing retro specs-- especially when today's top designers are modernizing them to make them look chic and sleek. Tom Ford's collection of wayfarers leans towards the modern side of cool while French Connection replicates the style with blatant throwback appeal. And although aviators are considered retro, a nice pair can go a long way in a man's wardrobe (the Dior aviators are a quite snazzy). If you have problems choosing what color frames to choose, the tortoise hue is the way to go. The black and brown goes with practically any outfit. That said, wrap some of these retro shades around your head.

    Sunglass Hut + Artist Chris Mendoza = One-Of-A-Kind Ray-Ban ...

I was starting to get sick of seeing Ray-Ban Wayfarers on every person under the age of 40, until they did something that made them cooler than ever. The new Sunglass Hut/Ray Ban Artist series is enlisting NYC based painter Chris Mendoza to paint the frames with his South American Graffiti-esque flavor. This Friday, Nov 28th ( otherwise known as black Friday) the artist will be customizing 100 pairs of the glasses in-store at the Sunglass Hut in Soho. The sunglasses will be available for $250 to buy in the spot or on sunglasshut.com starting December 3rd. Not only will you score some one of a kind shades, but you'll also be helping out-- 25% of the proceeds go to Give The Gift Of Sight, a charity that brings glasses and vision care to those in need around the world. In the NYC area? Read on to find out how you can pick up your own pair.

Celeb Style Steal: Get Daisy Lowe's Relaxed Off-Duty Model Look

    image

As much as I like seeing models walk down the runway, I also like to see what they wear while off-duty. English fashion model Daisy Lowe was spotted outside New York Fashion Week's Diesel Black Gold fashion show with then boyfriend Mark Ronson wearing a simple and relaxed look but still maintaining her rock star roots. Daisy demonstrates that you don't have to pile on the accessories to make a statement, especially when you're looking as leggy as she is. She pairs Ray-Ban's iconic Wayfarers with a lace bra peeping out from her oversized tank top and bowler hat perched atop her head. Her almost all-black look could have caused her to blend in with the crowd, but she broke up the look with distressed denim shorts and strappy leather boots. Check out my SLIDESHOW and see how you can get Daisy's look!

New York Fashion Week Style Steal: I'll Wear What He's Wearing

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Sep 11, 2008 2:01 PM PDT
Boys, take note: the graphic tee, blazer, and jeans combo never, and I mean never, fails. Change up the color scheme and throw on some quirky accessories (mint wayfarers, tennis shoes) and you'll be set for anything- and anyone- who comes your way. The colorful jacket is a bit daring, but he wears it so well, and as for the casually half-buttoned, sleeves rolled up style, well, it's just so effortless. I can show you where to find pretty much everything he's wearing, but style like his just can't be bought. Click the slideshow to try and get the look!
