Vintage Fashionistas Savor Gray This Season!

When searching for vintage clothing online, it's important that you use the right keywords to find what you want. And heaven forbid you're looking for something gray, because well, there's gray (the American spelling) and then there's grey (the British spelling). Of course, since vintage clothing sellers on both sides of the pond spell this color both ways without any sensible rhyme or reason, the wise online vintage shopper knows to plug both spellings into their search engines. If you do, you'll be rewarded with a smorgasbord of vintage treats in this classic, conservative neutral. Try substituting darker charcoal shades of gray for black. Or choose pale shades of gray to take the place of white. Morning, noon or night, for dresses, coats or evening gowns, gray is a fabulous wardrobe choice for a vintage fashionista. Vintage Fashionistas Cheer For Pink And Orange!

You don't need to be a genius to determine that I am not a big fan of pink, based on a quick peek into my closet. Or orange, for that matter. So it's hard for me to explain why I squeal with delight when I see these two colors together. I guess sometimes what seems like two fashion wrongs can actually make a big fashion right! And lots of folks agree. Like Jonathan Adler, for instance, who believes there's no better way to banish the blues than with this bright color combination. Or Alexander Girard and so many other designers in the 1960s who married these two tangy shades in home decor and advertising as well as in fashion. Today's slideshow features some outstanding vintage examples of this zesty color pairing, which is like putting on an instant good mood (or enjoying a nice big scoop of rainbow sherbet). Who can possibly stay dreary while wearing something this bright and cheery? Click the slideshow to get inspired!

Vintage Fashionistas Go For The Gold!

James Wilson Marshall discovered gold in California in January 1948 and started the California Gold Rush that profoundly changed America. Now, with gold prices reaching record highs, many people are scrambling to cash in on a modern-day Gold Rush by selling their old gold jewelry. But consumers should beware. Gold-buying scams are rampant, and, according to the BBB, some of the worst offenders are the companies advertising on late-night cable television. So take the time to read these tips before you join in the stampede. And of course, not everyone is selling. If you're a fashionista, you can invest in gold for a fraction of the price charged by the US mint. Vintage Fashionista: Fab and Fashionable Flapper Frocks

"Women have highly resolved that they are just as good as men, and intend to be treated so...They don't intend to be debarred from any profession or occupation which they choose to enter. " This quote is from an article by Bruce Bliven entitled "Flapper Jane" that first appeared in The New Republic way back in 1925. He was speaking, of course, about "flappers," the rebels of their day. These were women who cut their hair, wore makeup, showed their knees, listened to jazz and ignored the conventional social and sexual norms. In many ways, flappers paved the way for all of the liberties that we modern women take for granted. Of course, the flappers left something else behind, too-- beautiful dresses! Click my SLIDESHOW for an exquisite collection of flapper dresses that are oh-so-stylish for modern vintage fashionistas!
