If You Haven't Seen "The September Issue," Here's Why You Should

Anna Wintour. Just her name can cause successful designers and big-shots in the fashion industry to tremble slightly in their butter-soft Italian leather boots. The well-known, cold, and demanding character of Miranda Priestly from "The Devil Wears Prada" was said to have been based not so loosely around Anna Wintour. Of course, when they announced "The September Issue" was coming out, all fashionable females and style-savvy men were more than a little excited- a real look into the conception and making of, arguably, the world's most famous fashion magazine, often unofficially referred to as the Bible of Fashion Magazines? At first, you'd almost almost expect the documentary to showcase Anna barking orders, tearing apart people's hard work and making life in general miserable to all those around her, just because she can. While there are instances where she leans towards behaving much like her fictional movie counterpart, you get to see a surprisingly softer side of Anna that includes genuine smiles and sincere praises. You get a glimpse into her personal life with input from her daughter and candid comments about her family, revealing they don't take her role in fashion quite as seriously as many of us do. You get to see that her ruthless, no-nonsense attitude comes more from a need to be efficient in a hectic, ever-changing, fast-paced world and that, despite the fact that she may eliminate many seemingly great ideas and projects born from blood, sweat and tears, there is no malicious intent behind it and that she does indeed have a great eye for what makes an issue 'perfect.' Most importantly, you realize that, although she is aware of her status in the fashion industry, she truly appreciates those around her that have raw talent and help make Vogue what it is today, like long-time colleague and friend, Grace Coddington, and that she believes in new talent, like her help with promoting Thakoon. So if you consider yourself a fashionably knowledgeable individual, I recommend that you hurry to see this movie and let it open your eyes!

Which CW Starlet Looked The Hottest At Teen Vogue's Young ...

Somehow Teen Vogue's annual Young Hollywood Party seemed so much more laid-back without having to watch Lauren Conrad run around backstage on the verge of tears like a chicken with its head cut off. While I'm sure there were plenty of other interns slaving behind the wings making sure it all ran smoothly, the event was much more enjoyable from our view on the red carpet. After all, what's a Teen Vogue party without the chance to really check out the entrance ensembles! With all the black, chrome, and grey dresses and pantsuits, I couldn't help but ask myself, has fall finally arrived, or is everyone just feeling "blah" tonight? And also, who are some of these people? I had to give credit to CW's newest bad girl, Katie Cassidy, for brightening the mood with a seriously colorful corseted number... while her fellow station-pals Jessica Stroup and AnnaLynne McCord kept it cool in monochrome. The Devil Has a Sense of Humor

    image

Leave it to David Letterman to get Anna Wintour, the elusive editor in chief of Vogue, not only to appear on national television without her trademark sunglasses but also debut a trait no one thought she had: a sense of humor! While on the late-night show to promote her documentary "The September Issue," Anna confessed to Dave that she's aware of what the press says about her (including that she looks like an alien that escaped from District 9) and thinks that "The Devil Wears Prada" was pure fiction. This past Wednesday night, New York's Museum of Modern Art was abuzz with some of the world's most chic elite as they mingled at the NYC premiere of The September Issue. The film, which hits theaters on Friday, documents the inner workings of Anna Wintour and her Vogue team as they slave over the release of the hugely-anticipated annual Fall issue of the fashion bible. To celebrate the movie's release, style icons of Hollywood and the design industry alike graced the red carpet, and although it's normally their clothing that fights for the attention of the cameras, the designers themselves embraced the limelight in person to honor the occasion. Among some of the fashion favorites in attendance were Carolina Herrera (hand-in-hand with Oscar de la Renta), the always-polished Vera Wang, and Zac Posen, who didn't hesitate to throw a few "top model" poses in the paparazzi direction. Any fashion week brings with it a slew of star-studded parties, but next month's spring 2010 shows in NYC will be ushered in by an absolute extravaganza- Fashion's Night Out. The September 10th event will feature everything from model and celebrity appearances to in-store events and meet and greets, and of course, shopping! It's being put on by Vogue, the CFDA, NYC & Company, and the City of New York, with the idea that engaging the city in the fun and excitement of fashion and shopping will restore consumer confidence once again. So what can we expect? For starters, Anna Wintour will appear at Macy's in Queens (wow, who would've thought) to sign t-shirts (again, wow), Andre Leon Talley will host a game at Bergdorf's. Coco Rocha will be doing a special performance at DKNY, Sasha Pivovarova will be showing her art at Henri Bendel, and it-girls like Harley Viera-Newton and Alexandra and Theodora Richards will be DJ-ing about town. Want more? Manolo Blahnik will hold a meet-and-greet, Oscar de la Renta will sing, Opening Ceremony is having a block party, and Chanel will have a customized handbag studio! Still not excited? Mark your calendars: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be bartending at Barneys- is it bad that I want someone to order a black and Tanner? Belt It Like Mrs. Obama

I went shopping for a bit on Saturday and spotted at least 3 stylish young ladies sporting large belts over cardigans or jackets as spotted on our stylish First Lady Michelle Obama. In fact, this fall, the big belt is in thanks to Mrs. O! As featured in Vogue UK, Michelle Obama is a fan of oversized belts over sweaters, and with its flattering waist-cinching look, it's no wonder why it's been quick to catch on. One of my favorites for this fall is this two-in-one Anthropologie Puckered & Pleated Cardigan with built in wide belt ($128) which I can definitely see on our First Lady. It's available in gray, black, or bright gold. How cute is it with the soft pink ruffled shirt pictured on the model?
