Vintage Fashionistas Cheer For Pink And Orange!

    image

You don't need to be a genius to determine that I am not a big fan of pink, based on a quick peek into my closet. Or orange, for that matter. So it's hard for me to explain why I squeal with delight when I see these two colors together. I guess sometimes what seems like two fashion wrongs can actually make a big fashion right! And lots of folks agree. Like Jonathan Adler, for instance, who believes there's no better way to banish the blues than with this bright color combination. Or Alexander Girard and so many other designers in the 1960s who married these two tangy shades in home decor and advertising as well as in fashion. Today's slideshow features some outstanding vintage examples of this zesty color pairing, which is like putting on an instant good mood (or enjoying a nice big scoop of rainbow sherbet). Who can possibly stay dreary while wearing something this bright and cheery? Click the slideshow to get inspired!

James Wilson Marshall discovered gold in California in January 1948 and started the California Gold Rush that profoundly changed America. Now, with gold prices reaching record highs, many people are scrambling to cash in on a modern-day Gold Rush by selling their old gold jewelry. But consumers should beware. Gold-buying scams are rampant, and, according to the BBB, some of the worst offenders are the companies advertising on late-night cable television. So take the time to read these tips before you join in the stampede. And of course, not everyone is selling. If you're a fashionista, you can invest in gold for a fraction of the price charged by the US mint. Vintage Fashionistas Seize The Day In Sequins

'Tis the season for sequins! These little dazzlers aren't just for evening or holidays anymore. They're popping up everywhere for fall and yes, they can absolutely be worn during the day. But to avoid looking like a Las Vegas showgirl, you might want to keep a few tips in mind. First, dress 'em down. Make one sparkly item your focal point. Think a sequin vest with jeans and a tee or a sequin cardigan with a tank. Then choose matte accessories. Sequins add enough shimmer and shine to an outfit so pick boots, bracelets and bags with a flat finish. And finally, keep shapes uncomplicated. For day, sequins work best on simple shapes like classic tees and shifts. Now just click the slideshow for a dazzling array of fabulous vintage sequin finds!

When the sun's blazing and the air conditioner's blasting, lightweight summer sundresses hold great appeal. But if you can wrench your thoughts away from staying cool long enough to look at a calendar, you'll realize that Labor Day and back to school are just a few weeks away. And that means falling leaves and cooler temperatures won't be far behind. So while you're enjoying the remaining dog days of summer, you may want to trade your sun visor for a proverbial Fall thinking cap. Using your imagination, and a few layering devices like leggings, cardigans, long-sleeve tees and turtlenecks, you can easily transform summer dresses into go-to fall frocks. Beautiful Pierre Cardin Creations for Vintage Fashionistas

When Pierre Cardin tried to make designer clothing more accessible for women by producing a ready-to-wear line in 1959, he created quite the scandal and was expelled from the Chambre Syndicale. But he didn't let the ire of those haute couture folks stop him! No, he continued to produce designs that were innovative and futuristic. And what gal wouldn't lust after his 1968 crepe evening gown with the built-in sculpted silver necklace and its $60,000 diamond! Cardin's work from the 1960s and 1970s captured his trademark minimalism, use of geometric shapes and exquisite tailoring and iconic pieces from these collections are still highly sought after by today's vintage fashionistas. Vintage Fashionistas Get Chic In Caftans

It shouldn't be hard to believe that caftans originated back in 14th-century Persia as garments for men. After all, they're super comfy and men tend to value comfort over fashion. You don't see men teetering along on four-inch heels or squeezing themselves into vise-like undergarments. And while the identity of the first female to appropriate a caftan for herself is unknown, women everywhere should cheer for her courage to step outside the fashion box. Now commonly chosen as beach cover-ups or attire for pool parties, you shouldn't overlook the power of a caftan for an elegant evening, too. Try one with a few chunky bracelets, flat jeweled sandals, or a head scarf to add a bohemian feel. Click the slideshow to see a chic collection of vintage caftans that pack a powerful fashion punch.
