Vintage Fashionistas Savor Gray This Season!

When searching for vintage clothing online, it's important that you use the right keywords to find what you want. And heaven forbid you're looking for something gray, because well, there's gray (the American spelling) and then there's grey (the British spelling). Of course, since vintage clothing sellers on both sides of the pond spell this color both ways without any sensible rhyme or reason, the wise online vintage shopper knows to plug both spellings into their search engines. If you do, you'll be rewarded with a smorgasbord of vintage treats in this classic, conservative neutral. Try substituting darker charcoal shades of gray for black. Or choose pale shades of gray to take the place of white. Morning, noon or night, for dresses, coats or evening gowns, gray is a fabulous wardrobe choice for a vintage fashionista. So Turkey Day is a just a few weeks away, and maybe your family allows you to wear Uggs to the dinner table. But maybe not. Maybe you're going to be meeting his parents for the first time this year. Or maybe it's your turn to channel Martha Stewart and host all the relatives at your place for the first time. Maybe you want to be thankful while feeling confident and looking great. (And certainly looking great will help you feel more confident!) If so, then you'll love this selection of dresses for the Thanksgiving Hostess-with-the-Mostest. After consuming waaaaay too many calories, these knit and jersey beauties will still be comfortable. And, if you do happen to dribble a bit of cranberry sauce on their deep, rich prints, no one will notice. And that makes them perfect Thanksgiving Day dresses for vintage fashionistas. Vintage Fashionistas Cheer For Pink And Orange!

You don't need to be a genius to determine that I am not a big fan of pink, based on a quick peek into my closet. Or orange, for that matter. So it's hard for me to explain why I squeal with delight when I see these two colors together. I guess sometimes what seems like two fashion wrongs can actually make a big fashion right! And lots of folks agree. Like Jonathan Adler, for instance, who believes there's no better way to banish the blues than with this bright color combination. Or Alexander Girard and so many other designers in the 1960s who married these two tangy shades in home decor and advertising as well as in fashion. Today's slideshow features some outstanding vintage examples of this zesty color pairing, which is like putting on an instant good mood (or enjoying a nice big scoop of rainbow sherbet). Who can possibly stay dreary while wearing something this bright and cheery? Click the slideshow to get inspired!

Vintage Fashionistas Embrace "Mad Men" Style

Once upon a time, women sat around on Sunday nights sipping cocktails and tuning in to their favorite fashion friends on Sex and the City. But whether you were more of a Samantha or a Carrie type doesn't matter anymore because there's a whole new gang of girls in town. The new fashionistas to watch are the girls of the hit series Mad Men. The buxom Joan Holloway, the poised Betty Draper, and the spunky Peggy Olsen don't just entertain us but allow us to feast our eyes on the fabulous designs of yesteryear, coordinated by the show's talented costume designer, Janie Bryant. Pair the dresses walking down the halls of Sterling Cooper with period pumps and handbags and you'll look a bit dated, but it's easy to glam them up 2009-style with tights, belted cardigans or ankle boots. Now just click the slideshow for some vintage delights for Mad Men fans.

Canadian Designer Valerie Dumaine Modernizes The Classics

Personally, I'm so excited that "Mad Men" has started up again. Aside from the great plotlines, the show acts as a beautiful reminder of what I love about vintage dresses -- the idea that we should dress for every occasion. Okay, I realize that it's just a TV show, but my grandmother would say that it's how she lived her life -- in style. Maybe it runs in the family. Anyway, as much as I like vintage dresses, sometimes I want the modern equivalent: sexy, well-presented, yet with immaculate details. Montreal-based designer Valerie Dumaine perfectly quenches these cravings, with mid-century silhouettes with shorter hemlines and contemporary elements. Her new fall collection is available now, and with price points in the $125-$150 (US) range, you get unique dresses with a vintage modern twist. My favorites are the Cairo Tulip Dress, the Ines Pencil Skirt, and the Jean Pencil Dress! Once you're done browsing, don't forget to head over to The Coveted for more vintage fashion done modern!

Vintage Fashionistas Seize The Day In Sequins

'Tis the season for sequins! These little dazzlers aren't just for evening or holidays anymore. They're popping up everywhere for fall and yes, they can absolutely be worn during the day. But to avoid looking like a Las Vegas showgirl, you might want to keep a few tips in mind. First, dress 'em down. Make one sparkly item your focal point. Think a sequin vest with jeans and a tee or a sequin cardigan with a tank. Then choose matte accessories. Sequins add enough shimmer and shine to an outfit so pick boots, bracelets and bags with a flat finish. And finally, keep shapes uncomplicated. For day, sequins work best on simple shapes like classic tees and shifts. Now just click the slideshow for a dazzling array of fabulous vintage sequin finds!
