Pair the dresses walking down the halls of Sterling Cooper with period pumps and handbags and you'll look a bit dated, but it's easy to glam them up 2009-style with tights, belted cardigans or ankle boots.     Personally, I'm so excited that "Mad Men" has started up again. Aside from the great plotlines, the show acts as a beautiful reminder of what I love about vintage dresses -- the idea that we should dress for every occasion. Okay, I realize that it's just a TV show, but my grandmother would say that it's how she lived her life -- in style. Maybe it runs in the family. Anyway, as much as I like vintage dresses, sometimes I want the modern equivalent: sexy, well-presented, yet with immaculate details. Montreal-based designer Valerie Dumaine perfectly quenches these cravings, with mid-century silhouettes with shorter hemlines and contemporary elements. But he didn't let the ire of those haute couture folks stop him! No, he continued to produce designs that were innovative and futuristic. And what gal wouldn't lust after his 1968 crepe evening gown with the built-in sculpted silver necklace and its $60,000 diamond! Cardin's work from the 1960s and 1970s captured his trademark minimalism, use of geometric shapes and exquisite tailoring and iconic pieces from these collections are still highly sought after by today's vintage fashionistas.
