Hot In The Hive: USB-Powered Eyelash Curler!

    image

I know what you're thinking -- vibrating mascara, at-home airbrushing kits, and now a USB heated eyelash curler -- what will they think of next?! Though I'm still convinced that mascara that moves on its own is just a recipe for disaster, I have to admit I'm pretty intrigued by this USB beauty tool, especially as a girl who is rarely without her laptop and her makeup bag. I'm already a big fan of my Sephora heated eyelash curler... but the battery's always drained and it doesn't have the same satisfying squeeze-and-curl action that makes for really luxe lashes. With this device, all you do is plug it in, power it on, and revive lashes pronto! So if you're going to have an emergency stash of back-up makeup at your desk for touch-ups and work (or in preparation for post-work happy hour), this newfangled new beauty-fiend gadget may not be so far-fetched when it comes to practicality!

Let's face it -- we live in a technology-dependent world in which our daily routine is shattered when our PDA battery depletes to empty. But while we make the necessary room in our budget to get all the latest electronic gadgets, that old jalopy you've been driving may not have the modern accommodations to keep you wired on the go. Welcome PowerCup, a 200-watt outlet inverter for your car, complete with a USB hub to charge your phone, iPod, PDA, laptop -- whatever your techie heart desires! And the coolest thing? It's shaped like a coffee cup to fit perfectly in your car's cup holder! How genius is that? You can finally call off the search for separate car chargers for all your gadgets!

    Laptop Add-ons That'll Have Your Notebook Back-To-School ...

    image

So you've picked out the laptop that will (hopefully) serve as your loyal lifeline through the four (or more) years ahead full of harrowing all-nighters and endless study sessions. Check. But is its just-out-of-the-box pristine condition completely ready for what it has in store once it's shipped off with you to college? It may be shiny and new, but is it really ready to tackle the long walks to class, the thousands of party pictures, and (gasp!) the spilled energy drinks? Maybe not, but with this selection of laptop additions, you and your notebook will be fully supplied and stylishly accessorized for both working hard and hardly working. Make sure you have a desktop cord organizer to keep all your tangled cables in check, for one, and don't forget to nab a sweet pair of speakers to lure the floormates into your room for your own dorm dance party (after your paper is done, of course). Check the slideshow for some back-to-school laptop loot!

Ever sit at your work desk and wonder what life would have been like if you pursued your dreams of becoming a DJ? ...No? Yeah, me neither... but I still think it would be pretty fun to give it a shot without having to bribe the club mixmasters into letting me dabble with their ultra-expensive equipment. With the Crosley Portable USB Turntable, an exclusive Urban Outfitters gadget, you can start spinnin' and scratchin' all your favorite old-school tracks with just a quick plug-in to your Mac or PC, and even transfer them to your iPod. Now all you need to do is raid your parents' collection of ancient LPs and you can get to experimenting away with your untapped beat-rocking skills.

Hot In The Hive: LaCie iamaKey USB Flash Drive

    image

I have to say that the first USB flash drive I ever owned was a whopping 512MB model. I know, I know, how did I ever fit my entire life in that little storage device? I could only use it to hold essays and other documents to print at the school lab and maybe a few song files too. The worst part was that it was terribly designed to boot! It came with a little cap that you could attach to your keychain, but one day I discovered I still had the cap and no flash drive. So maybe it was a good thing it only held 512MB of information! Anyway, I've happily moved on to greener pastures with a bigger and better flash drive, but finding the LaCie iamaKey USB Flash Drive has made me seriously consider buying another one. The key shaped flash drives comes in either 4GB or 8GB models with a water- and scratch-resistant connector, assuring that your files will stay safe. It's all one piece, so just string it along with your real keys and you're good to go!

    Price: $26.99-36.99

Hot In The Hive: Grow An E-Garden With The USB Tulip Hub!

As you know, we at Stylehive are always looking for the coolest and funkiest gadgets. While it certainly keeps us organized and geeky-chic, one of the side effects is that we often find ourselves suffering from Fred Flare overload... but this gizmo was just too cute to pass up! If your techie self (or not-so-techie self) is constantly surrounded by messy tangled wires from your various computer plug-ins (iPod, camera, printer, zip drive -- whoever thought only two USB slots would suffice?!), this USB Tulip Hub is the perfect solution to keeping your workspace organized in the cutest form possible and you'll be able to stop using eeny-meeny-miny-mo to choose which electronic will have to sacrifice its port to make room for others! Embrace spring (and spring-clean all those homeless loose wires!) with this flowery desktop accessory -- no watering necessary (in fact I strongly advise against it)!
