Hot In The Hive: LaCie iamaKey USB Flash Drive

    image

I have to say that the first USB flash drive I ever owned was a whopping 512MB model. I know, I know, how did I ever fit my entire life in that little storage device? I could only use it to hold essays and other documents to print at the school lab and maybe a few song files too. The worst part was that it was terribly designed to boot! It came with a little cap that you could attach to your keychain, but one day I discovered I still had the cap and no flash drive. So maybe it was a good thing it only held 512MB of information! Anyway, I've happily moved on to greener pastures with a bigger and better flash drive, but finding the LaCie iamaKey USB Flash Drive has made me seriously consider buying another one. The key shaped flash drives comes in either 4GB or 8GB models with a water- and scratch-resistant connector, assuring that your files will stay safe. It's all one piece, so just string it along with your real keys and you're good to go!

    Price: $26.99-36.99

As you know, we at Stylehive are always looking for the coolest and funkiest gadgets. While it certainly keeps us organized and geeky-chic, one of the side effects is that we often find ourselves suffering from Fred Flare overload... but this gizmo was just too cute to pass up! If your techie self (or not-so-techie self) is constantly surrounded by messy tangled wires from your various computer plug-ins (iPod, camera, printer, zip drive -- whoever thought only two USB slots would suffice?!), this USB Tulip Hub is the perfect solution to keeping your workspace organized in the cutest form possible and you'll be able to stop using eeny-meeny-miny-mo to choose which electronic will have to sacrifice its port to make room for others! Embrace spring (and spring-clean all those homeless loose wires!) with this flowery desktop accessory -- no watering necessary (in fact I strongly advise against it)!

    Price: $22

I've committed to being more responsible when it comes to technology. Whether it's keeping all those cords tangle free and organized behind my desk or backing up all my data on a regular basis, it doesn't all have to be dry and boring! A technology lifestyle and fashion lifestyle may not always seem like they go together, but with accessories like the Mimoco USB flash drive, you get the best of both worlds. With a USB flash drive, I can have all my important documents (like the upcoming Fashion Week schedule), custom mix audio tracks from my musically inclined friends, and all those photos I've been meaning to print out since Halloween. Best part is that the Mimoco flash drives comes with a "hoodie" with an attachment to my keychain for easy portability. From Star Wars characters to the limited edition Artist Series, the hardest part is how to choose your favorite! To help make up your mind, take a look at the slideshow for a dose of ultra-cuteness.

It's sad, but we all have them- those boring looking USB drives that hold all our important documents, photos, and even the latest hit songs. While the contents can be boring too, it doesn't have to be housed in a device devoid of personality. Whether it's the playful and nostalgic Lego- style flash drives that combine your favorite childhood toy and modern day necessity or a Swarovski crystal-encrusted flash drive with enough bling worthy of a hip-hop star, you're sure to make a statement. So don't be surprised if your friends and co-workers are green with envy the next time you share your favorite mp3 or Powerpoint presentation. Retro tech. Although it's somewhat of a contradictory statement, techie gadgets reminiscent of days past are popping up everywhere! So silly and cute you might dismiss them as toys if it weren't for their practical applications. Yep, these fun gadgets may be retro-inspired, but they're fully equipped with the brains of today. Legos from my childhood have transformed into portable iPod speakers, the rubber ducky from my bath into a USB drive (iDuck), and that impossible Rubik's cube is now a multi-function digital clock. These "toys" are difficult to pass up and would make wonderful gifts for friends (or self)! So check out my SLIDESHOW now to see my fave 5 retro techie toys from around the Hive!

    image
Greta on Jul 25, 2008 12:19 PM PDT
Is your everyday desktop computer becoming, well, a bit too everyday? Ever feel the desire to "spruce" things up at your workstation? If so, then before you go ahead with bedazzling the monitor, causing some permanent damage (and possibly your unemployment), consider investing in one of these interesting new gadgets designed specifically with the stylish techie in mind. Maybe you will decide to take your computer back in time with the Victorian era inspired Steampunk monitor and keyboard for the Mac Mini- it will be just like typing on an actually typewriter! Or for a more subtle approach, dress up your desk with an Oriental rug mouse pad. The rug is none other than a replication of the one set beneath Freud's infamous couch. And lastly, I dare you to try and deny one of the deliciously adorable products from Freshly Baked - freshly baked USB Drivers that is.
