How To Look Cute (And Stay Dry) In The Rain!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Oct 23, 2009 12:25 PM PDT
Looking cute when it's raining is no easy feat. It's amazing how quickly you can go from looking impeccably stylish to looking like... a wet dog (and trust me, that's not cute if you're a human). You could brave the storm in head-to-toe rain gear, but at that point you'd probably rather be drenched and fashionable than dry and completely drab. I've compiled a collection of rainy day essentials that are so stylish, you might find yourself wishing for puddles! Hunter wellies are playful and easy to coordinate with your outfits, and you can seriously wade to work in them- I know I have! A cute trench coat is a must-have- I'm loving Topshop's take on the classic topper. Kate Spade's bow-adorned rain boots would be lovely with thick-knit tights and a felted mini, and you definitely won't forget your umbrella when it happens to be clear and bubble-inspired! See my slideshow for the wet-weather items that'll make your (rainy) day!

Cheap Thrills: Marc Jacobs "Special Items" That Are Worth The ...

Any devoted Marc Jacobs fan knows about the exclusive special items-- those generally cheap, kitschy, and cute little trinkets that can be found at any Marc by Marc store (and on eBay, "MARC-ed" up of course). You can pretty much go in, scoop up a couple rhinestone rings, a tote, and a book, and walk out of the store having only spent $40. The best part of this entire scenario? You get the iconic Marc Jacobs carrier bag, so the rest of the world knows you shop at stores that garner a Yelp rating of $$$, which may lead them to believe you are a successful human being (or just connected to one). All kidding aside though, I love that the stores sell these items- it gives me a reason to wander through the racks, make a mental wishlist of everything I want but can't have, and then drown my sorrows in $1 keychains and $3 fingerless gloves. Click on the slideshow to see the goodies worth making the trip to the store!

Stylehive's Stylescopes Keep You Bright & Dry For A Rainy Week!

While we patiently (or not so patiently) wait for spring to show its sunny face from behind those looming clouds, it's important to take note of the weather we're currently stuck with and work with it by dressing and accessorizing accordingly. In other words, there's no use living in fashion denial and donning your shortest of sleeves and sunniest of dresses, determined to magically will the sun out of hiding -- you're bound to just end up drenched, freezing, or both. So whether the climate at hand is snowing, raining, hailing, monsooning, or just plain gloomy, Stylehive is here to let all you hivers know what you may have in store and how to be prepared for the weather at its worst this week. Geminis will be encouraged to brave the showers in a cute trench for the sake of staying social, Aries girls will channel the soggy weather creatively with some raindrop-inspired jewelry, and Cancers will stay productive in the face of a downpour with a water-resistant tote to keep their work dry! Check the slideshow to see how your sign can stay chic in the sleet this week, or at least until the rain goes away!

Have A Sunny Outlook On Rainy Days With Fashionable Slickers ...

While many parts of America are facing snow and icy weather, I'm facing wet and windy conditions. While I keep an umbrella in my bag, sometimes it's not enough to protect me from rain coming from all directions. So on the worst days, I'd suggest arming yourself with a strong umbrella, a rain jacket, rain boots! Before you reach out for that plain black umbrella, remember that there are more stylish options out there! Take a look at the super classic domed bubble umbrella and pair it with a bright blue patent trench. For rain slickers, I would order them a size up so you can layer a warm jacket or sweater underneath! Take a look at my SLIDESHOW for more umbrellas and rain slickers that will get you through the rainiest days.

Our 10 Favorite Ways To Give (Or Keep) The Peace

Peace signs aren't exactly associated with the most fashion-forward among us, but the icon that characterized way too much of my middle school wardrobe is coming back, and if this isn't music to your ears, you might have to take it up with Barneys Creative Director Simon Doonan, whose 'Hippie Holiday' campaign has renewed many a shopper's love for the iconic symbol and the culture it represents.

So what does this mean? Aside from dizzyingly psychedelic store windows, there are tons of peace sign-emblazoned items to be found, from wearable to edible and everything in between! And Barneys isn't the only retailer who knows it- Free People, DOGEARED, and Felix Rey have put their own spin on peace with tasteful handbags, jewelry, and decor.
