Rollasole: Vending Machine Flats To Save Stiletto-Wearing Feet

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 1, 2009 5:19 AM PDT
On NBC Nightly News last week, I caught a story about 27-year-old UK entrepreneur Matt Horan who started a company based off an ingenious idea. Rollasole is an emergency ballet flat sold in vending machine at UK clubs. For about 5 pounds (around 8 bucks), you can relieve your dancing or partying feet with these comfy and cute ballet flats that roll open and come complete with a little carry pouch (for you to tote around and use later!). Within 6 months of starting his business, Horan has sold thousands of Rollasoles and has expanded to the wedding/special occasions market. The next expansion? Over the pond, of course. Rollasole is coming soon to the U.S. to bring relief to our stiletto-wearing partying feet. Read more on Rollasole at the London Evening Standard and Perez Hilton, and even follow them on Twitter -- @Rollasole. Check out more fun fashion finds at Coquette!

Cupcake Delivery And Cookie Delivery To Your Doorstep!

Mmm... cake. There's really no substitute, is there? Sure, we can quell ice cream cravings with fro yo until the cows come home, but when a hankering for a bite (or five) of fresh, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cake and ooey gooey frosting comes along, there's only one thing we can do: eat cake. Now stop drooling all over your keyboard and turn your attention to BuyCake.co.uk, the UK cupcake company that's managed to catch our attention from all the way across the pond! Polka dotted, candy-covered, daisy-adorned, or simply sweet, there's a cupcake for every occasion. We're pretty much smitten with the Old Skool Sweetie Cupcakes, luscious morsels adorned with the candies of your childhood. Owners Catherine and Michelle bake all cupcakes, cakes, and cookies to order using only the finest ingredients (free range eggs, Belgian chocolate, Nielsen Massey vanilla) and deliver them anywhere in the UK next day for maximum freshness. Skip the flowers and send a batch of their cupcakes instead for your next occasion- their pricing is certainly reasonable. UNIQLO's latest campaign, "The Sport of Life," reflects the fact that everyone's constantly on the move these days... hopefully clad in their comfy polos, A-line tee dresses, zip hoodies, pants, and vests made from movement-friendly jersey, stretch cotton, pique cotton, and soft terry in eyeblasting shades of acid-bright pink, blue, orange, and green. Spend 45GBP or more and either save 10% (use code UNIQ10OFF45) or get free shipping through the end of the year (code UNIQDEL45). Prices start around the $10 mark at UNIQLO.

    Influential International Style: Kate Moss

    image

It's no coincidence that Kate Moss is always 2-3 months ahead of the curve. She sets the curve, and designers scramble to put clothes on the market that mimic her eclectic, always surprising style. Moss seems to live by only one key rule of fashion, which is to wear beautiful clothes authentically. She seems to effortlessly throw together outfits that you never think would work. Whether it's layering neutrals over grey skinny jeans and red booties (months before anyone is even wearing black ones!), sporting heavily layered jewelry, or throwing a blazer over anything, Moss keeps visual interest without seeming over-dressed. She always seems comfortable, her clothes look tailored to fit her body, and you most often see her wearing flats. Her lesson to be learned is wear what makes you feel comfortable. Fun fact: Moss is only 5'7", and though very slight, her style can be mixed and matched to flatter many body types! Check out my slideshow for ways to adopt Kate Moss's eclectic style! Meet Love Brigade, Stylehive's Next Big Thing!

What do Kurt Cobain, ancient Egyptians, and Bob Dylan all have in common? Give up? Well, they were all inspiration behind Brooklyn-based design team Love Brigade! Blending musical influences with up to the minute trends, their Fall '08 collection named "Love Kurt" featured nature motifs and sexy asymmetrical cuts, slits, and straps all without baring too much skin. Not to be outdone, their Spring '09 presentation of their "Ex-Oh" diffusion line was probably one of the most unique out there! The presentation featured models hanging out on hammocks and dining with oversized cutlery rather than strutting down the runway. We got a chance to talk to Creative Director Christopher "Tinypants" Dang about Love Brigade's background and what's next for them. Read on to see what he had to say, and be sure to check out the slideshow for a look at their Fall collection- then watch the video for their newest Spring '09 looks!

Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Cool Britannia

    image

If you think the British Invasion started with the Beatles and ended with the Spice Girls, think again- these days, the fashion is cooler on the other side...of the pond. The pretty meets punk, Vivienne Westwood-inspired look is the perfect mix of royal refinement and downtown edge. Need proof? Just ask Kate Moss, whose collection for Topshop is likely to sell out faster than a freshly baked scone. You won't need a passport to get the look- take a cue from Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe who love Dr. Martens' patent boots, perfect for adding punk appeal to skirts and tights, or Alexa Chung, who has been photographed in more than a few of Luella's frocks. And no review of Brit girl style would be complete without mention of Alexander McQueen, whose current collection honors Queen Elizabeth II. Who knew patriotism could be so glamorous? Go to Elle's Fall A to Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and click the slideshow for more ways to get the cool Britannia look for yourself.
