My Sugarland: Your One-Stop Destination For UK Designers!

    image

Why is it that Brits always seem to have it better when it comes to fashion? Maybe it's just that they have a much cooler and edgier selection of designers and boutiques. The boutique My Sugarland, brainchild of stylist Zoe Lem, has been a favorite haunt of London's fashionistas and a mandatory stop-by every time I'm overseas. They have the best selection of hard to find Brit designers such as a PPQ, Steve J & Yoni P, and Belle Sauvage, just to name a few. Now, for all of us non-Londoners, we're in luck since they've opened the cyber doors of their online store. They have easy navigation tabs to help you find exactly what you're looking for and they offer styling tips and secrets (so maybe we do have a chance of getting that effortless Kate Moss-esque street style)! It's one seriously fashionable one-stop online shop!

    Influential International Style: Lily Allen

    image
kate napleton on Jul 17, 2009 10:21 AM PDT
Lily Allen, pop's talkative, oversharing princess, is a serious style maven. Showing a clear penchant for luxury brands like Chanel, Prada and Yves San Laurent, yet comfortable wearing Chucks and a cartoonish headband with them, she certainly has a look all her own. In the same way that Madonna did in the 1980's, Lily Allen is probably owed back royalties for style "ideas" taken and mass-produced at Urban Outfitters. How does she do it? She starts with a beautiful piece, no matter if it's a gorgeous top or a fantastic prom-style dress. She brightens the outfit with colored accessories and bold, thick bling. Check out my slideshow for style tips from Lily Allen! Photo credit: PR Photos

Gotta Getaway? Edinburgh's Missoni Hotel Brings Knitwear To ...

Now fashionistas have a place to stay in Edinburgh! Hotel Missoni has finally opened on the Royal Mile and there are more of them to come all over the world. At 74, Rosita Missoni, the doyenne of the Italian knitwear dynasty, has set out to start a chain of boutique hotels. Each hotel is the expression of her creative and artistic vision and sets out to bring out the warmth and color of an Italian family home but with a twist. In signature Missoni style, you're bound to find plenty of bright saturated colors, stripes, and of course, tons of Missoni zig zags. The hotel promises "the warmth and passion of an Italian home," and no Italian home would be complete without a great restaurant serving modern Italian fare. At the Edinburgh location the waiters even wear Missoni kilts while they provide stellar service at Cucina Missoni. Now if only the closet came stocked with Missoni's newest collection... that would make it pure heaven! Not planning on being in Edinburgh anytime soon? You can check out their hotels opening soon in Kuwait, Cape Town and Oman! Check out some of the gorgeous rooms in the slideshow.

You're always in the market for new clothes, but in this summer heat, the mall is almost as much of a madhouse as it is around the holidays. The usual alternative would be online shopping from your favorite e-boutiques, but you're sick of guesstimating sizes only to find the goods either ill-fitting or damaged (*gasp*) upon arrival... and forget trying to get good customer service through an e-mail window! Enter Lands' End UK, an iconic go-to brand in men's and women's clothing, known for their long-lasting quality garments, mail-order convenience, and personable customer service for all your pesky returns and exchanges (you'll actually talk to a person and not a machine for a change!). The US-based brand, boasting everything from coats and cardigans to footwear and intimate apparel, has become a summer sale staple in the UK with their no-fuss women's swimwear collection that emphasizes the perfect balance between flattering cut and comfort. Low-maintenance guys dig Lands' End too, since they can stock up on their collection of classic polos, tees, and button-downs without ever stepping foot in a shopping center. The site may cost you a shopping buddy, but at least you won't have to pick out your dude's summer shirts for him! Check out the Lands' End UK webpage to browse their wide variety of clothing and swimwear and start ordering away!

Rollasole: Vending Machine Flats To Save Stiletto-Wearing Feet

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 1, 2009 5:19 AM PDT
On NBC Nightly News last week, I caught a story about 27-year-old UK entrepreneur Matt Horan who started a company based off an ingenious idea. Rollasole is an emergency ballet flat sold in vending machine at UK clubs. For about 5 pounds (around 8 bucks), you can relieve your dancing or partying feet with these comfy and cute ballet flats that roll open and come complete with a little carry pouch (for you to tote around and use later!). Within 6 months of starting his business, Horan has sold thousands of Rollasoles and has expanded to the wedding/special occasions market. The next expansion? Over the pond, of course. Rollasole is coming soon to the U.S. to bring relief to our stiletto-wearing partying feet. Read more on Rollasole at the London Evening Standard and Perez Hilton, and even follow them on Twitter -- @Rollasole. Check out more fun fashion finds at Coquette!

Mmm... cake. There's really no substitute, is there? Sure, we can quell ice cream cravings with fro yo until the cows come home, but when a hankering for a bite (or five) of fresh, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cake and ooey gooey frosting comes along, there's only one thing we can do: eat cake. Now stop drooling all over your keyboard and turn your attention to BuyCake.co.uk, the UK cupcake company that's managed to catch our attention from all the way across the pond! Polka dotted, candy-covered, daisy-adorned, or simply sweet, there's a cupcake for every occasion. We're pretty much smitten with the Old Skool Sweetie Cupcakes, luscious morsels adorned with the candies of your childhood. Owners Catherine and Michelle bake all cupcakes, cakes, and cookies to order using only the finest ingredients (free range eggs, Belgian chocolate, Nielsen Massey vanilla) and deliver them anywhere in the UK next day for maximum freshness. Skip the flowers and send a batch of their cupcakes instead for your next occasion- their pricing is certainly reasonable. To view their mouthwatering photo gallery and find out more about BuyCake.co.uk, visit www.buycake.co.uk.
