Vintage Fashionistas Cheer For Pink And Orange!

    image
Mary Kincaid on Nov 6, 2009 8:24 AM PST
You don't need to be a genius to determine that I am not a big fan of pink, based on a quick peek into my closet. Or orange, for that matter. So it's hard for me to explain why I squeal with delight when I see these two colors together. I guess sometimes what seems like two fashion wrongs can actually make a big fashion right! And lots of folks agree. Like Jonathan Adler, for instance, who believes there's no better way to banish the blues than with this bright color combination. Or Alexander Girard and so many other designers in the 1960s who married these two tangy shades in home decor and advertising as well as in fashion. Today's slideshow features some outstanding vintage examples of this zesty color pairing, which is like putting on an instant good mood (or enjoying a nice big scoop of rainbow sherbet). Who can possibly stay dreary while wearing something this bright and cheery? Click the slideshow to get inspired!

    Forever21 Twist Presents Limited-Edition Cirque 21 Collection

    image

Forever21 clothes are the fashion equivalent of a summer fling. The outcome is always the same: I fall hard for an item and before I know it (approximately two months later), it's gone-- chalk it up to less than satisfactory handiwork or perhaps neglect in the form of not taking it out to the dry cleaners (but why do that when you can Febreeze?). Even so, I find myself clicking over to the Forever21 website to scope out potential future heartbreaks. The latest thing to catch my eye? Forever 21 Twist: Cirque 21, a limited-edition collection of big top-inspired looks that will be available in stores and online starting Wednesday, July 29. Think stripes, poufy dresses, cropped jackets, and lots of tulle. There's no word on future Twist collections, and this one's really just not my type, but one thing's for sure- I know I'll be coming back for more. I just can't help myself.

What do you think of Forever21 Twist? Check out the slideshow to preview the collection, and let us know in comments!

Looking For Pretty And Practical Lingerie? La Perla, Please...

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Feb 10, 2009 1:24 PM PST
I don't know about you, but I happen to find the process of rationalizing lingerie purchases pretty easy. Did I really need five more pairs of aerie boyshorts? No, but I won't need to do laundry as often. That Honeydew satin cami set? Totally unexpected and cute- plus, you have to give your other lingerie pieces a break sometimes. And it goes without saying that there's no such thing as too much Natori or Hanky Panky- it's a fact. But when it comes to lingerie by innovative Italian label La Perla, the pretty price tags might require a bit more rationalizing than usual. The luxury lingerie brand makes some of the most captivating underthings you'll ever lay eyes on, and with just a few key pieces you'll no longer see your lingerie collection as a mix of boring yet functional basics punctuated by oh-so pretty, oh-so unpractical things. Take this delicately adorned push up bra from the Malizia collection- its simple shape and subtle yet stunning embroidery make it a top drawer must-have, and at $113, it's quite reasonable as far as luxury lingerie goes- plus, you can always try it on in-store and then search sites like barenecessities.com for sales. For luxurious design at an easy to swallow price, look to La Perla Studio- this mesh bra is perfect for everyday wear, but looks anything but basic and is just $42. With Valentine's Day just days away, I've found some of the dreamiest La Perla creations, just begging to be wrapped and unwrapped this Saturday (even if you just buy them for yourself). Click the slideshow to see my no-rationalization-necessary favorites!

Hathaway And Hudson Go To "War" Over Wang In Bride Wars!

    image
    Dino-Ray Ramos on Jan 12, 2009 7:18 AM PST
In the movie Bride Wars, actresses Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson play Emma and Liv, two BFFs who accidentally get their weddings scheduled on the same day. Instead of trying to solve it like adults, they do something better: they get into a catty feud trying to sabotage each other's weddings. Bad tans, blue hair, dance contests at male strip clubs and vengeful weight gain are all involved. Needless to say, hilarity ensues €“ and so do fabulous wedding gowns! Costume designer Karen Patch collaborated with the fab wedding gown goddess Vera Wang to create their dresses for their dueling big days. Emma (Hathaway) dons her mother's off-the-shoulder taffeta gown, while Liv (Hudson) goes for a modernized confection of a classic dress with a lace bodice and a layers upon layers of tulle. Emma's dress echoes a gown from Vera Wang's Spring '06 collection, while Liv is almost a match to a piece from Fall '05. Even though the two dresses aren't straight off the runway, they have Wang and Patch are written all over them!
