How To Look Cute (And Stay Dry) In The Rain!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Oct 23, 2009 12:25 PM PDT
Looking cute when it's raining is no easy feat. It's amazing how quickly you can go from looking impeccably stylish to looking like... a wet dog (and trust me, that's not cute if you're a human). You could brave the storm in head-to-toe rain gear, but at that point you'd probably rather be drenched and fashionable than dry and completely drab. I've compiled a collection of rainy day essentials that are so stylish, you might find yourself wishing for puddles! Hunter wellies are playful and easy to coordinate with your outfits, and you can seriously wade to work in them- I know I have! A cute trench coat is a must-have- I'm loving Topshop's take on the classic topper. Kate Spade's bow-adorned rain boots would be lovely with thick-knit tights and a felted mini, and you definitely won't forget your umbrella when it happens to be clear and bubble-inspired! See my slideshow for the wet-weather items that'll make your (rainy) day!

Video Style Steal: Black Eyed Peas Take Fashionistas To ...

    image

The recent Black Eyed Peas singles are overplayed enough for you to notice that their latest album is much more "futuristic"-inspired than their past party anthem compilations. And if you're just about fed up with hearing the repetitive beats of "I Gotta Feeling" and the laser gun sound effects of "Boom Boom Pow," you might be relieved that the third single, "Meet Me Halfway," is considerably easier on the eardrums. But don't worry -- just because the relatively low-key tune isn't exactly a club banger doesn't mean it lacks room for drama. The video features the four members isolated in separate parts of the solar system, each looking for a way to reunite. For example, Fergie seems to be stranded in a long-lost dimension that resembles the set for "A Midsummer Night's Dream," decked out in a shimmery fairy princess gown. While the video wardrobe is pretty fantastical, you can still take a cue from their futuristic concepts to form your own modern explorer and fairy-inspired ensembles, thanks to the funky stylings of Fergie and Will.I.Am. Watch the video to get some intergalactic insight, then check the slideshow for some wearable wardrobe pieces!

Vintage Fashionistas Go For The Gold!

    image

James Wilson Marshall discovered gold in California in January 1948 and started the California Gold Rush that profoundly changed America. Now, with gold prices reaching record highs, many people are scrambling to cash in on a modern-day Gold Rush by selling their old gold jewelry. But consumers should beware. Gold-buying scams are rampant, and, according to the BBB, some of the worst offenders are the companies advertising on late-night cable television. So take the time to read these tips before you join in the stampede. And of course, not everyone is selling. If you're a fashionista, you can invest in gold for a fraction of the price charged by the US mint. Just click the slideshow to go for the gold with these fabulous vintage gold clothing and accessory finds.

The Glamorous And Fashionable Martha Stewart

When you think of Martha Stewart, what first comes to mind? Probably that she's a domestic goddess and a bit of a stickler. She's a go-getter and is good at everything. We've always thought she was pretty, but did you know she was once a glamorous model? Tory Burch is currently spotlighting Martha Stewart on her website. Martha Stewart in her younger, most fashionable days. And when you see the pictures, you might not even believe it's her. Tory writes about the time she went to visit Martha Stewart and saw a wall full of photos from Martha's modeling days in the 1960s. She says, "It also struck me that everything Martha was wearing in the pictures looks so modern." And we have to agree. In our favorite photo above, Martha is wearing a perfectly-fitting trench coat. One we would love to get our hands on today. Click on over to our friends at LimeLife to read more about the fashionista side of Martha!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Christian Siriano

As demonstrated by Christian Siriano's stunning Spring/Summer 2010 collection, the youngest-ever winner of Project Runway is still fierce as ever! While his Fall 2009 collection took inspiration from Egyptian pharaohs and the sandy banks of the Nile, this time around he took his audience on a trip to what looked like a Tahitian beach sunset with his satiny tan suits, orange gradient gowns, and sparkly aqua hues. Shimmering steel-blue pinstripes and cascading tiered ruffles gave the collection a distinctly oceanic vibe along with a polished femininity, and every piece seemed to boast a "Christian" signature, from the sand-and-sky color palette to the My Fair Lady-esque floppy hats. If that wasn't a challenge for the other PR graduates to step up their game, I don't know what is! Click on the slideshow to browse the dazzling collection!

Stylehive's Stylescopes Bring Out Your Sense Of Adventure, ...

Last winter and spring, we saw belted trenches all over the place, and we were definitely diggin' the Sherlock-Holmes-gone-chic look. Rather than going out of style or retiring to the closet hangers due to the passing seasons, the khaki hues and cinched coats have instead been modified to adapt to the warm weather, bringing a bevy of new styles that are more reminiscent of a stylish safari chick than an undercover sleuth. Whether or not you're actually as adventurous as these savannah-inspired styles might suggest, you don't have to be Indiana Jones' new sidekick-in-training to rock the summery safari look -- it's simply written in the stars! Tauruses can add shape to their waist with a breathable belted cotton vest and Pisces ladies will feel breezy in a posh pair of long khaki shorts. Browse the slideshow for your sign and see how you're destined to dress this week!
