Get Sophisticated In Peplum Skirts And Dresses

    image
Anna Yu on Nov 2, 2009 10:23 AM PST
What do Fergie, Lily Allen, and Rihanna all have in common (besides being famously popular singers)? They've been seen wearing peplum dresses and skirts! If you don't know what a peplum is, it's an addition of a short skirt-like panel over the waist on a dress or skirt. Reminiscent of Dior's "New Look" and also of '80s style, peplum dresses and skirts are feminine looks that accentuate hourglass figures. These days, the peplum combines the best of the retro sensibilities of the '40s along with the youthful exuberance of the '80s. Urban Outfitters gives us a taste of the 80s look with their Tribal Print Peplum Skirt made of one of a kind vintage fabrics. For a more classic look, turn to the Alice + Olivia Multi Gather Peplum Dress in a beautiful red satin that will be sure to turn heads at holiday parties. Spring Trend Alert: Watercolor Prints

    image
Adriana Nova on Apr 27, 2009 10:21 AM PDT
Watercolor prints have been declared one of the "it" trends for spring, from Coco Rocha sashaying in a demure rose-spattered A-line dress in H&M's Spring campaign to red carpet regulars like Vanessa Williams adding an artsy touch to their ensembles with watercolor print clutches, shoes, and scarves. A subtler alternative to bold prints, watercolor motifs are still dramatic in their own way and add an avant-garde yet feminine sensibility to any outfit. Walter, Elizabeth and James, Tracy Reese, and Black Halo are among the designers who have included graceful watercolor-inspired pieces in their spring collections. Apart from its visual merits, what's also fab about this trend is that it comes without an expiration date. Like quality art, it can be kept and sported for years and not appear dated at all. Careful not to overdo it, though: one impressionist piece per outfit makes the best impression. Check out the slideshow for stylish ways to channel your inner Monet!

Relive The Good Old Days With Some Updated Keds Sneakers!

As a nostalgic '80s and '90s baby, I've always looked back at wearing Keds fondly. It's sort of like remembering when MTV used to play music videos: a distant, heartwarming memory of a time that, sadly, will likely never repeat itself. Looking through Keds' newest offerings, though, I might be forced to rethink my stance. They're actually pretty adorable! The company has updated its iconic Champion shoe (or "skips," to some of us) in funky colors and fabrics (such as croc-embossed leather) and even launched a Keds Studio on their Web site where you can design your own version of the classic sneaker. In addition, Keds and Tracy Reese's Plenty line have collaborated on a collection that might have quite a few of us itching to jump back on the Keds bandwagon (just please don't break out the multicolored slouch socks with them...please?). Check out the slideshow for a Keds update!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Tracy Reese Gets Artsy for Fall ...

    image
Sabrina Newman on Feb 23, 2009 9:17 AM PST
For her Fall 2009 collection, Tracy Reese found inspiration in post-impressionist portraiture, including the works of Vuillard, Van Gogh and Modigliani and their expressive use of color to convey emotion. Tracy is never one to shy away from bright shades and exuberant prints and directed her affinity for all things bold toward creating a collection that balanced soft romance with understated glamour and glimmers of a rebellious and whimsical spirit. Bold colors and prints abounded as did some basic shades of black and neutral which were enlivened with beaded embellishments. Feminine pieces like floral shifts and satin frocks were toughened up with thigh-highs, knitted hats, and nerdy glasses, throwing some irreverence into the romantic mix. The mixing and matching of patterns and textures was a major motif-- floral blouses with pinstripe trousers, oversized tuxedo jackets and boyfriend blazers layered over flirty floral frocks and embroidered shifts, chunky knits over delicate chemises, and so on. The message of the day-- when it comes to fashion, there are no boundaries and anything goes.

Colors: Pink, Purple, Teal, Orange, Black
Trends: thigh-high socks, knit caps, nerdy glasses, florals, ruffles, mixing and matching
Celebs: Paris and Nicky Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Reggie Bush, Kellie Pickler, Solange Knowles, Alison Brie

Brighten Up Your Bedroom With The Plenty Home By Tracy Reese ...

Love Tracy Reese's fun and girly designs? To add on to her already existing lines- Tracy Reese Collection, plenty by Tracy Reese and Plenty FROCK, as well as her shoe and handbag line, she's recently added on a home collection too! For fall, the super-designer continued to expand the collection of quilts, comforters and sheets that all embody her worldly, boho-chic style. Just like in her clothing line plenty for Tracy Reese, she incorporates similar exotic patterns and vintage motifs as well as embroideries and trims. Her bedding is a nice departure from the dark heavy fall/winter colors that are all around us, so it can feel like spring time in your bedroom all year round! My favorite is the "Goa"- it takes you on a voyage to the small Indian province with is beautiful golden beaches with a palette of sand, hazelnut and thistle. It brings a nice, soothing, exotic flair to your bedroom. For more of a jolt of color the "Almost Famous" has great "Summer of Love" feel that will go great with your fall boho-chic wardrobe. Take a peek at my SLIDESHOW for more bedroom flair.
