Which Overpriced Kiddie Toy Is The Most Ridiculous?

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Dec 14, 2008 12:17 PM PST
Most parents these days will tell you that there isn't anything in the world they wouldn't do for their kids. Sometimes, these unconditional expressions enter the realm of gift-giving, and the high-end retailers know this better than anyone because I've seen more ridiculously overpriced children's gifts and toys this year than in any other. I don't even need to mention the current state of our economy to drive home my point that no child needs a crystal-encrusted piggy bank, a BMW Z4 Roadster, or a Swarovski tricycle, unless of course they're unnaturally motivated in their quest to appear on My Super Sweet Sixteen. I can't imagine a child even asking for one of these, but if they do, a word of advice- the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book? Not a bedtime story.

Anna Yu on Dec 11, 2008 12:20 PM PST
Living near Silicon Valley, I have a lot of guy friends who work in the technology field. That definitely helps when they lend a hand when I can't figure out how to run a software program or hook up my complicated stereo system. So as a token of thanks, I've found some great gadgets my tech-savvy friends will like and I think yours will too! Is he always lost or late because he can't (or won't) read the maps? Give him a GPS navigator that has maps for the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico and will find the nearest ATMs, restaurants and gas stations. Got a friend who has every gadget known to mankind? Get him this handy charging tray where he can charge his phone, camera, and other gadgets all in one place! For more electronic gadgets that will make his holiday extra special, click on the slideshow.

Whenever I see my young cousins, I'm always amazed at how smart and articulate they can be (even if they do get gum stuck in my hair!). So for the holiday season, I'm going to get gifts that foster learning while letting them have fun too. Show them it's easy to learn French with a bingo game. They'll be ordering like pros the next time they go to a fancy French restaurant! For any budding perfumers ready to make the next Chanel No. 5, take a look at this perfume making set. Give The Gift Of Hermes For The Holidays!

    image

The first thing that comes to mind when we hear Hermes is Birkin. Or Kelly. Or waiting list. Or...Posh Spice. But there's much more to the Parisian luxury brand than virtually unattainable handbags named after beautiful actresses and genuine royalty, and with the holiday season in full swing, there's no better time to explore the world of Hermes for yourself, or for someone else. Need a gift for your mother, grandmother, or stylish-beyond-her-years friend? An Hermes silk scarf is your answer. So timeless and versatile, they can be tied on to a handbag, worn around ponytail or as a hair scarf, or looped around the neck any time of year. Hermes fragrances carry the same intrigue as their elusive accessory counterparts- they're not nearly as ubiquitous as other designer perfumes, but fall under the same price range, making them the perfect gift for the girl who won't spritz just any scent on her wrist. Hermes jewelry and watches blend classic leather with ornate styling for pieces that have signature appeal, ensuring they'll be loved for years to come, and to bring some Hermes into your home, check out Bluefly's tabletop collection. And if nothing but a Birkin will do, let us introduce you to Portero.com, where you can bid on genuine Birkin handbags- complete with heftier than hefty price tags, of course, but you already knew that. Click the slideshow for ways to give the gift of Hermes this holiday season.
