Show Some Skin The Sophisticated Way With A (Semi) Backless Top

    image
Ida Hsiang on Aug 26, 2009 8:24 AM PDT
If you've got it, flaunt it, right? Not if you're going to work or school. Or if it's too cold out. Or if flaunting it for the world to see just isn't your thing. So then what? If you don't want to don micro-minis and plunging halter necks, does that mean you're left with super-conservative, matronly garments? Far from it! The woman's back is an alluring area that up until recently was overshadowed by the more outwardly seductive legs, decolletage and derriere. However, as we get more mature, so do our everyday tasks and personal style. I'm still a sucker for a hot mini-skirt, but looking fly is no longer my only concern. A great way to cover all grounds is to uncover your back! Backless tops and dresses are a perfectly elegant and sophisticated way to show off your toned back and effeminate side while still staying appropriate for various occasions! Another bonus? The backless look makes your frame seem leaner and thinner! Check out the slideshow for some sexy, backless favorites!

The Crop Top: Love it or Lose it?

In the fashion world, it's "what is old is new again" all of the time. Everywhere I turn, it seems like the cropped top is one of those "new" old trends that's coming back with a vengeance! They were on the runways (Alexander Wang & Victoria Bartlett, for instance), in tons of editorials, and now it seems like the lynch pin of '90s fashion is even popping into stores! After years of t-shirts and tops getting longer and longer, are we ready to raise the shirt hemline, bare the midriff again, and show off some skin? While the trend seems sexily adorable on tall Eastern European models in the pages of Vogue, is it going to be able to translate to mere mortals? Crop tops can be a great option with high-waisted pants and skirts, as you don't have to tuck in all that excess fabric. But what happens with tighter pants? What's going to hide a woman's worst enemy... the muffin top? Just the thought of wandering the city streets with my belly bare makes me want to lock myself in my apt with my ab roller!

First dates are nerve-wracking in all kinds of ways. You're stressed if the guy will like you, if your hair is going to do that weird flippy thing it sometimes does, and most importantly, if your outfit is just right. Well, have no fear, for I have developed a guide to dressing for the occasion. These outfits are perfect for casual restaurants, movies, mini golf -- almost anytime! Remember to wear your most flattering jeans with this beaded tank from Banana Republic, and your outfit is sure to sparkle just as much as your eyes! Or for a cooler evening, pair this flirty ruffle wrap cardigan from Gap with white jeans or skinnies and boots for a great look! Personally, I think the best way to look cute and casually put together is by throwing on a cotton jersey dress and your favorite flats or sandals. Try this ruffle tube dress from Urban Outfitters, sure to hug your body in all the right places. Check out my slideshow for lots of casual first-date-fits!
