The Top 10 Must Haves For Your Turkey Day Table!

    image

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and before you think about all the Black Friday deals out there, there's the actual Thanksgiving Day to think of first! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it's one of the few times of the year where my entire extended family comes together for a whole day filled with delicious food. We may have the conventional turkey and cranberry sauce, but my family has been known to roll some sushi rolls or add some stir fry noodles to the mix. If you're starting your own Thanksgiving traditions this year, I'm here to provide the basics for a foolproof holiday from thermometers to serveware. If you have no idea where to start, grab a copy of The New Thanksgiving Table at Crate & Barrel for some creative recipes. Thanksgiving is also all about the decorations so I like things that can do double duty such as the uber cute Pheasant Gravy Boat! Check out my slideshow for more Thanksgiving necessities!

Make Over Your Beauty Routine With These Must-Have Tools!

You might think you've got your beauty routine under control... or even if your cosmetics collection is a huge mess, you insist you've got a daily system down that works for you (in other words, there's a method to your makeup madness). However, what if I told you that there were simple, easy-to-use tools that could cut your grooming time in half, make the makeup you already have look twice as good, or at least make application a whole lot easier? Even subtle changes, like trading your drugstore tweezers for a better pair that will put your old pair to shame or investing in a train case to keep all your beauty loot neatly organized, can make a big difference in the efficiency of your beauty regime and motivate you to clear out all your prehistoric makeup tools and swap 'em for a compact set of modern must-haves. You might be able to live just fine without the latest beauty technology, but you don't know what you're missing until you test it out! Forget crazy vibrating mascaras and at-home airbrushing systems -- take a look at the slideshow for the 8 most practical, user-friendly beauty tools I swear by!

Hot in the Hive: Homo Sapiens Caveman Kitchen Tool

    image

I like to cook. "Like" as in I watch Food Network and enjoy flipping through cookbooks (but only the ones with pictures) and am particularly inspired to whip things up when there is chocolate involved, or perhaps a dough I can repeatedly test (for quality control- I'm very thorough). Michael Pollan would disagree and say that what I actually like is food and not the process by which it is prepared. He would not be wrong. His recent cover story for The New York Times Magazine not only points out cooking's transformation from obligation to fascination, but also the idea that cooking actually helped our ancestors evolve and develop a culture rather than merely grunting, gnawing, and chewing all the live long day. And so, in the spirit of getting back to those simpler times, I am seriously pondering this caveman kitchen tool from ThinkGeek. It grinds, grates, mashes, flattens, and even sharpens your knives, and the best part is that it's not the least bit daunting, so you don't have to worry about your tools being more sophisticated than you are. The other best part is that you can make noises like "oog" and "grog" as you pound your way to your next meal!

    Price: $39.99

Beauty Gadgets For Spa-Quality Glamour At Home Or On The Go!

Even for someone as relatively tech-savvy as I am, it's difficult keeping track of the ever-changing developments in cell phones, PDAs, laptops, cameras, etc. (and whatever pocket-sized gizmo will show up next to more conveniently combine all four). If you're someone who still rocks an old Nokia out of fear of any device that functions as more than just a phone, doesn't understand a word of technology jargon, and/or often spaces out during Apple Genius appointments ("I don't care what you do or what it costs -- just fix it!") Sephora, in tandem with the many brands the makeup mothership carries, offers a variety of gadgets that might actually speak your language! While more and more people are trying to save by cutting back on their regular spa trips, high-tech beauty tools for at-home treatments are becoming increasingly popular, easier to use, and even more advanced for cheaper costs, making even the pricier devices good investments when you think about all the trips to the salon you'll be saving. While a technology-phobic gal may argue that her old-fashioned eyelash curler works just fine, the upgraded heated ones are undeniably simple to use and get the job done better! And it's hard to resist the convenient convertibility of the Bliss rechargeable hair trimmer with interchangeable blades for all those pesky hard-to-reach spots you risk nicking while shaving. Before your inner caveman acts out and forces you to reject all things techie, check out the slideshow to see just how convenient some of these new cosmetic contraptions really are!
