New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Brian Reyes

When designer Brian Reyes noted backstage that his Spring/Summer 2010 collection contained "all the things he loves," he wasn't exaggerating. Even though his runway seemed to boast everything but the kitchen sink -- from sheer lingerie to multicolored high-waisted shorts to metallic off-the-shoulder dresses to ink blots(?!) -- he still managed to maintain a sophisticated sense of balance. Floaty ruffled blouses were reined in with cinched belts, and bustier dresses got a dose of high-wattage color to keep things young and fun, not vampy. As for the silk rorschach test body suit? That's the result of a creative thought process that perhaps only Reyes' #1 fan Rachel Bilson would fully understand. Flip through the slideshow to see some of the show-stopping ensembles!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Whitney Eve

For her Spring/Summer 2010 Whitney Eve collection, Whitney Port seemed to use herself as a muse. Every single looked screamed "Whitney" and for someone like me who adores Whitney's style, that's definitely a good thing! This collection merged a downtown New York edge with a sweet and sunny California girl sensibility. Just like Whitney, it was very eclectic, funky, and had a retro reference point which was re-interpreted to create a modern feel. I absolutely died over this one slinky, metallic number! Other standouts included a cut-out brocade mini dress with a bow accent (such a great way to balance naughty and nice!) and a strapless full-skirted black dress with layers of tulle peeping through. Almost every style was adorned with ultra femme accents -- ruffles, bows, tulle, lace -- but the sweetness was definitely offset by sexy silhouettes and styles. Whitney also presented some fabulous separates, including a sharp-shouldered peplum jacket, a black blazer updated with layered of ruffles, and an oversized metallic blazer. Overall, anyone who loves Whitney's style will absolutely flip over all the pieces in her Whitney Eve line -- check the slideshow to see for yourself!

One of my favorite fashion designers is Portland-based Liza Rietz, who now has her Spring/Summer collection up for sale in her online shop! The collection is just so beautiful I can't even being to describe it all, so be sure to check it out for yourself on Etsy and take a good look at all the stunning photos! I'm just so in love with the modern silhouettes she creates. Pick up one of her fabulous pieces to stand out from the crowd at parties this summer. Some of my favorites from her most recent collection are the Silver Romper ($260), the Asymmetrical Tiered Dress ($315), and the Waffle Tucked Tunic ($375). Vintage Style: Sunshine Finds for Vintage Fashionistas

It's that time of year when the Back to School sales are in full swing. And while I'm won't be stocking up on any yellow No. 2 pencils, I am inspired to sport something in the sunshine shade during the remaining carefree days of summer. Yellow is a surefire attention-getter (which is why there are so many yellow taxicabs on our streets) but that also makes it especially tricky to wear. Try pairing it with neutrals for a chic ensemble or with navy for a nautical look. And if you think you can't wear yellow because it washes you out, don't give up without a fight. With choices that range from banana to canary, you are sure to find a sunshine shade that is just right for you. Still need some inspiration? Then click the SLIDESHOW for a collection of yummy yellow vintage finds.
