Get Sophisticated In Peplum Skirts And Dresses

    image

What do Fergie, Lily Allen, and Rihanna all have in common (besides being famously popular singers)? They've been seen wearing peplum dresses and skirts! If you don't know what a peplum is, it's an addition of a short skirt-like panel over the waist on a dress or skirt. Reminiscent of Dior's "New Look" and also of '80s style, peplum dresses and skirts are feminine looks that accentuate hourglass figures. These days, the peplum combines the best of the retro sensibilities of the '40s along with the youthful exuberance of the '80s. Urban Outfitters gives us a taste of the 80s look with their Tribal Print Peplum Skirt made of one of a kind vintage fabrics. For a more classic look, turn to the Alice + Olivia Multi Gather Peplum Dress in a beautiful red satin that will be sure to turn heads at holiday parties. New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Tibi

    image

If Alice in Wonderland grew up, moved to New York and became a seriously stylish fashionista, her wardrobe would most likely look a lot like the runway collection that Tibi presented at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week It looks like color-blocking and saturated hues are still in for Spring/Summer 2010, but with an eclectic twist. Colors that before would be marked as "horribly mismatched" (powdered rose and bright blue or pink and red) lived harmoniously together on breezy dresses and jumpsuits, loosely draped tops and short shorts. Sunshine yellow, coral pinks and simply sophisticated white, as well as pretty floral cut-outs added to the whimsically happy and bubbly bright colors that give the collection a feel of a sweet and candy-coated childhood. The silhouettes, however, remained very grown up with decolletage-baring tanks and tops, high hemlines that flirted with toned thighs, and sensual one-shoulder looks emphasizing the cinched waist. Strut Your Stuff In A Bright Print & Bold Accessories

    image
Lesley Scott on Mar 31, 2009 7:22 AM PDT
Your new fashion mantra: "Instead of my LBD, for my next date, cocktail party, wedding, or other excuse to dress up - I WILL wear color." This sweet Tibi frock has an exuberant print that's completely irresistible in a cut that's begging to be taken out and shown a good time. For a picnic, BBQ or beach party, go more low key in flats (try Juicy Couture's "Violet" toe-ring espadrille sandal, a casual-chic tote in "Teaberry", and a fabulous straw hat), But when the sun goes down, step out South Beach style in vibrant grass-green heels, a coral bag, and jewelry with fringe. Worried about how to balance so much color at one time? First, focus on one or two key hues in the print - in this case green and coral - in order pick accessories that coordinate in a non-clashy way. Then, evaluate whether the background of the print is cool or warm. Here, it's a warm beige, so a warm-toned metal such as bronze or gold is your best choice - and the reason that with this dress, gold-toned jewelry works so well. Get Blushing In A Red, Pink Or Coral Dress This Valentine's Day!

    image

I've found out that there's tons to prepare for if you're celebrating Valentine's Day with your sweetheart. From reserving a table at the most romantic restaurant in town well in advance to finding that perfect gift, there's a lot of stress leading up to the big day. Why not let us make your life a little easier in the wardrobe department? If you're still looking for that sexy Valentine's Day date dress, read on. One of my favorite fashion quotes comes from famed designer, Bill Blass: "When in doubt, wear red." While a bold bright red may not be right for everyone's style, I've found a wide selection in reds, pinks, and corals. Don't worry, these dresses can be worn again and again (no heart prints in sight!) without anyone wondering why you're in a Valentine's Day getup in June. Then again, I can't vouch for your Christmas sweaters or St. Patrick's Day all-green outfits. A red and white striped nautical-inspired dress is great for a casual date. Coral is one of those totally underrated colors that looks good on most skin tones. Take a look at a one-shoulder ruffle dress by Tibi for a stunning example. Celeb Style Steal: Go Abstract Like Brittany Snow

    image

At the Teen Choice Awards, actress Brittany Snow made a show-stopping splash on the blue carpet wearing a vibrant strapless floral minidress by Jill Stuart paired with ravishing red pumps. To prevent sensory overload, Brittany balanced this high-octane look by exercising accessory-restraint, selecting only two pieces- small diamond hoops and an oversized cocktail ring. A richly-colored dress like this one is almost always universally flattering and can beautifully enhance any complexion, just as it did for Brittany. The flirty florals make this dress perfect for summer, but with a little maneuvering, it can easily make the transition to fall- a slim cardigan, tights, a pair of funky booties and there ya go! Check out my SLIDESHOW for 5 fun and flirty dresses similar to Brittany's that will keep you fashionably fabulous year-round.
