The Coveted Takes A Peek At Sephora's Window Theatrics

    image

I didn't partake in any Fashion's Night Out activities-- too much temptation to spend my life savings. But this Sephora event in New York looks like it was awesome. Temptu, famous for their airbrush makeup, created living art at the Sephora on 5th Avenue, recreating work they've done for cinema and fashion. They crafted a variety of looks, like those from an Italian Vogue spread, Robert DeNiro's character in Cape Fear (if only DeNiro had looked so yummy), and the movie The Stepford Wives. I'm not quite sure where I would wear numbers all over my face, but I totally would if I could find the right occasion! They really drew a crowd as they airbrushed models in the storefront windows for eight hours. They also lured tons of customers looking to get airbrushed and photographed for a mock fashion mag cover. Now that's a good time! Check out The Coveted for the latest happenings in the fashion and beauty world!

The Coveted Loves Mahtab Azimi's Little Black Dress

Everyone needs a comfy little black dress in their wardrobe arsenal. This much I know... and I have quite a few in my closet to back it up! Yet, like black shoes, there never seems to be enough! When designer Mathab Azimi sent me this lovely Micah sheered tunic dress for a review, I just couldn't be happier. The Micah dress is made with a poly-rayon blend which has kind of a jersey feel, only softer and with more movement.

The Pros: For $69.95 this dress is really well-made. The dress is very adjustable, with a tie belt and even the sleeves are customizable with ties, and can easily be worn with bows showing in the front or back. The length of the dress will adjust according to how much you pull up the top, and you can make it shorter in front, longer in back, mini or knee length. I really liked the gathering which gives it a nice Grecian effect.
The Cons: The only real gripe I have is that it's dry clean only. If I had to pick something else, it would be that the flip side of adjustability also means that sometimes you need to adjust the dress during the day, but not much.

All in all, it's a great dress and since it's done by an independent designer, the price is more than reasonable. I definitely would recommend it! Check out The Coveted for more fashion reviews!

Lara Stone Curates Not Just a Label

When they say Not Just a Label, they really mean it. A shop that's been around for a few months, with guest curators including my hero Diane Pernet, this online boutique really promotes all the labels I love to write about (ahem Blushless!) This month they have Lara Stone, and I'm not really a person to gush over models, but I have a not-so-secret girlcrush on this alien looking lady. Seriously, I'm always amazed every time I see her... that's Lara Stone? Yep, that's what I think. Anyway, before I digress in my internal conversations, as if I didn't have another reason to love her, she's also picked an amazingly cool selection of clothing for this month's shop. Among them, my dear Liv from Blushless Livlaovone heart dress, Emma from Seelenkleid (posted about here and here) Gemma Slack's Spine Dress (posted about her too), Lara Dawson's Buckminster dress, and yeah, I could go on linking to this site, but you get the drift. It's worth a peek, and it's nice to see an online shop that carries all my online muses.

The Coveted Gives Us The Inside Scoop On The Dior Beauty Fall ...

    image

The new Dior Beauty Jazz Club Collection for fall is filled with sultry smoky greys, purples, and light pinks inspired by the jazz scene and the daring femme fatales of the twenties and thirties. I stopped by Saks San Francisco to get a makeup lesson with Dior National Makeup Artist Karen Hummel. She shared lots of insider tips and techniques that I've been incorporating into my makeup routine. I love how she played up my eyes with the greys in the Smoky Jazz Club compact ($65) and I was blown away by how long and full my lashes looked when she layered two coats of the new Diorshow Iconic Mascara ($27). It almost looked like I was wearing false lashes. I also fell head over heels for the new award-winning Diorskin Nude Fresh Glow Hydrating Makeup SPF 10 ($45) and Diorskin Nude Fresh Glow Powder SPF 10 ($45). They do a wonderful job perfecting the complexion and feel so refreshing and cooling (even the powder). Click over to The Coveted for an in-depth review of the products and a helpful how-to video!

Canadian Designer Valerie Dumaine Modernizes The Classics

Personally, I'm so excited that "Mad Men" has started up again. Aside from the great plotlines, the show acts as a beautiful reminder of what I love about vintage dresses -- the idea that we should dress for every occasion. Okay, I realize that it's just a TV show, but my grandmother would say that it's how she lived her life -- in style. Maybe it runs in the family. Anyway, as much as I like vintage dresses, sometimes I want the modern equivalent: sexy, well-presented, yet with immaculate details. Montreal-based designer Valerie Dumaine perfectly quenches these cravings, with mid-century silhouettes with shorter hemlines and contemporary elements. Her new fall collection is available now, and with price points in the $125-$150 (US) range, you get unique dresses with a vintage modern twist. My favorites are the Cairo Tulip Dress, the Ines Pencil Skirt, and the Jean Pencil Dress! Once you're done browsing, don't forget to head over to The Coveted for more vintage fashion done modern!

Bobbi Brown Ivy League Makeup Collection

    image

Right on the heels of Nude Collection, Bobbi Brown brings us another lovely new collection for fall. The Ivy League Collection focuses on shades of ivy and products for the woman on the go. There are new eye pencils and lip crayons, a new shade of her amazing gel liner, limited-edition shadows, and a new, essential makeup brush. "Pencils are back in a big way for fall," Bobbi says. "They're quick, mistake-proof and can go from subtle to bold in one easy stroke." I headed to Neiman Marcus in San Francisco to get a closer look at the collection and get a makeup lesson on how to use everything with the wonderful Katrina Rau, Education Executive for Bobbi Brown. Head on over to The Coveted to read all about it and to watch a makeup lesson.
