  Chi-Lai Cherry Yuen - TACTILE. FORMING. +/- SPACES

  This collection is inspired by sculpture artist Henry Moore. His work is a metaphor of the human relationship with the earth. I am most interested in the imperfections that leave traces of evidence of the artist created by his direct carving method. I translate this tactile relationship into my pieces, by draping fabric with boning pre-sewn directly into it. I create positive and negative spaces between the object, body and atmosphere. The boning affects the overall form of the garment naturally when I gather the fabric, creating dramatic areas of light and shadow exaggerating the garment's shapes.

  Tactile Texture~Signed Sterling Squares Pearl Earrings

  .........an enticing fusion of ancient artifacts...art deco lines and a classic silhouette!! Perfectly sized for effortless adornment!. These are from my line of heavily textured, tactile and dimensional adornments that I have been making for over twenty years. Each is cast in limited quantity from completely hand fabricated original templates that are made from sheets of sterling...sawed, cut and torched into shapes and finally fused. Very tedious!! Finished design is signed on the back by me. 5/8" square sterling panels are adorned with spirals.....fans and granulation.....and tipped with gloriously smooth and lustrous pale platinum cultured pearls crowned in petaled caps and other sterling elements. Length from top of sterling leverbacks is 1 7/8". thank you~
