Lighten Up! With Illuminated Furniture For Every Room

    image
Amber Fijolek on Sep 30, 2009 10:24 AM PDT
Need to brighten up a room? Better than a lamp may just be a piece of illuminated furniture! As there are plenty of sconces, table lamps, ceiling and floor lamps to wade through in your quest for the perfect one, perhaps thinking outside the conventional lighting department could help. No, don't rip down your curtains. Try instead a table with the glow of a lamp inside, but be warned-- tracking down these fancy furnishings isn't easy as they're certainly a not on top of everyone's list. They are, however, if you're looking to transform your place into a posh pad. Illuminated furniture creates an ambiance unlike that of any spotlight. And, if your lighting concept involves your tabletops, the things that adorn them will see a new light of day. Click through the slideshow for a sample of some shiny surfaces!

The recent economic turmoil has many of us downgrading to smaller apartments, and in turn desperately trying to make the most out of the limited space in our newly cramped quarters. If your canine companion has also had to suffer with you in your sardine can of a sublet and has been forced to relinquish his beloved comfy crate for the sake of space-saving, the pet-loving decor mavens at DenHaus are here to the rescue to provide your pooch pal a comfy little den while at the same time helping you save room and keep up the chicness of your new pad. Give The Gift Of Hermes For The Holidays!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Dec 3, 2008 4:20 PM PST
The first thing that comes to mind when we hear Hermes is Birkin. Or Kelly. Or waiting list. Or...Posh Spice. But there's much more to the Parisian luxury brand than virtually unattainable handbags named after beautiful actresses and genuine royalty, and with the holiday season in full swing, there's no better time to explore the world of Hermes for yourself, or for someone else. Need a gift for your mother, grandmother, or stylish-beyond-her-years friend? An Hermes silk scarf is your answer. So timeless and versatile, they can be tied on to a handbag, worn around ponytail or as a hair scarf, or looped around the neck any time of year. Hermes fragrances carry the same intrigue as their elusive accessory counterparts- they're not nearly as ubiquitous as other designer perfumes, but fall under the same price range, making them the perfect gift for the girl who won't spritz just any scent on her wrist. Hermes jewelry and watches blend classic leather with ornate styling for pieces that have signature appeal, ensuring they'll be loved for years to come, and to bring some Hermes into your home, check out Bluefly's tabletop collection. And if nothing but a Birkin will do, let us introduce you to Portero.com, where you can bid on genuine Birkin handbags- complete with heftier than hefty price tags, of course, but you already knew that. Make sure to prepare as much of your menu in advance as well setting your table the night before. You don't want to be stuck in the kitchen instead of spending time with your guests. Since there is usually so much food on the table for the Thanksgiving or Christmas meal, keep your centerpieces (flowers, candles, etc) simple. Want to get more expert tips from Kim? I have an addiction to pretty spring table stuff. Case in point: I was buying pieces before I even moved into my apartment. It was the middle of winter. I don't even cook. I have a problem. Click SEE SLIDESHOW for 10 of my favorite pretty spring plate picks. Incorporate a few new pieces here and there for the perfect place setting pick-me-up. Mix solids with patterns to add dimension to your table, and you can work with the pieces you already have! They're a worthwhile investment, even if the only action they get is a result of your Chinese takeout habit. But if you stop using them, send them to me. Don't even wash. Just mail now! Because I need them.

Okay, so your tree is pretty awesome. As far as the outside of your house goes, let's just say the neighbors are getting jealous and you're beginning to wonder if there's a Kodak moment sign out front because of all of the photography going on. And as for the food, well, you have everyone fooled into thinking that you actually made it all yourself. It's all going so well.. what could possibly go wrong?
