Hot In The Hive: SurfMonk's Perfect Beach Blanket!

Summer has been speeding by, but it's not quite time to pack up the BBQ grills and sundresses just yet! You've found the perfect swimsuit, learned how to do minimal make-up to avoid melting in the sun, found products to use for "beachy" hair, and don't have to worry about getting sun-burned because, by now, you are a bronzed goddess. So I'm going to throw one more tip on summer fun at the beach or poolside your way! Lather up the SPF, adjust that bikini, order yourself a refreshing drink and relax and lay back on ... the sand?! The hot, plastic lounge-chair that's been sitting in the sun all day? No thanks. But no worries, because we may have just found the perfect beach blanket for you! SurfMonk is a company that specializes in all things surf and swim. They happen to have an awesome beach blanket, and here's why. First, it's huge. It's long enough to cover the entire lounge chair so none of your body has to get burned on the hot vinyl, and it can fit two people comfortably laying down! Second, it feels amazing! SurfMonk uses a special blend of bamboo (the new "it" fabric) and cotton to make their terry cloth, leaving the blanket super-soft and plush to the touch-- plus, they include built in straps to help tie your blanket to a chair or post in case of wind. Then, as if that wasn't reason enough to by this ultra-comfy, eco-friendly beach blanket, the thing even has pockets! Now you can store your keys, cell-phone or wallet right inside your beach blanket and not have to worry about it being stolen or buried under the sand.

    Price: $99.00

Summer Scents You Can Spritz On The Go!

Summer can be the busiest time of year for many of us. Three months of vacation, travel, weekend excursions, surprise visits and spontaneous road trips! All those days at the beach, evening concerts and other balmy night activities sure are fun, but keep us busy and running all around! What is the best way to stay looking and smelling so fresh and so clean (clean) if there's no time to stop by the house in between things? There's travel size cosmetics, blotting papers, compact mirrors, mini hair brushes and even dry shampoo! But what about perfume? The last thing you want to do is stuff your already bulging tote with the Nordstrom's fragrance department! Some mini perfume solids and oils have become my favorites, but at times, I just want to smell like my favorite perfume... the one that only comes in a spray-on version. The latest trend in perfumes and scents is the travel size tube! These are glass vials that hold about 0.3 oz of your favorite scent, so you can grab a familiar favorite and slip it easily into a purse or pocket and smell like your freshest you anytime and anywhere. More and more stores are providing this simple and sweet solution in scents so check out your favorite beauty store! Still not sure if you'll be able to find your specific favorite? Check out the slideshow for some classic favorites.

Style Notes: Summer Music Festival Outfit Ideas!

To me, the sweet smell of summer is synonymous with outdoor concerts and festivals. My hometown of Chicago never disappoints with a positively booked calendar from mid-May until late September. So, next question, obviously: what should I wear? I've gotten this down to somewhat of a science. First, make sure you choose fabrics that breathe and will not leave weird tan lines. Second, try dancing. Are you comfortable, or are you readjusting? If you find yourself pulling at your clothes, move on to something more simple. Third, are you comfortable? Then go! I love to go with a cotton jersey or linen dress, or mid or Bermuda length jean shorts with a cute sleeveless top, like this Free People Rebecca tunic. I'm definitely picking up the Dolce Vita Camden dress for this summer - comfortable and classic! Check out my slideshow for some great summer concert style ideas!
