    Influential International Style: Charlotte Casiraghi

    image
kate napleton on Oct 2, 2009 10:25 AM PDT
If there was one icon I could choose to dress exactly like, Princess Charlotte Casiraghi would be it. The girl has it going on - royal pedigree, killer style, and hey, she's an editor-in-chief of Above magazine. Her style can be described as classically tailored, yet with a flair for rock and roll details. Whether she's rocking skinny jeans and boots, and a gorgeous scarf, or making a public appearance in a fabulous black dress with lace detailing, she can make any outfit look spectacular. Having a busy day? Channel Charlotte and pick up your hair in a messy bun, and wrap a scarf like crazy around your neck over a simple t-shirt. Voila! You have a fabulous outfit... and didn't even have to wash your hair. Check out my slideshow for some style tips from the royal herself! Photo credit: PR Photos

Three Ways To Wear Ankle Boots This Fall

    image
    Dianna B on Sep 16, 2009 3:19 PM PDT
I've gotten a couple requests regarding how to wear ankle boots, which are boots that end at or just above the ankle. These boots are especially hot for Fall 2009, but here are some things to consider should you choose to wear them:

-If you're tall, you're in luck -- for the most part: Ankle boots can make even the leggiest lass look stubby, so use a mirror. Dare to wear your ankle boots with bare legs and a mini dress.
-If you're short: Pair your ankle boots with tights, leggings or pants that are the same color as the boot to create the longest line possible. Ankle boots have a tendency of visually chopping you off at the ankle, so be aware of this. Try topping your look with a fitted, cropped jacket to elongate your torso.
-If you're plus size: Go for a monochromatic look on the bottom to slim and lengthen your silhouette. Pair with something like an a-line, 3/4-length-sleeve dress in a body skimming (not hugging) fabric that falls at or just above the knee.
-Everyone: I'm stating the obvious here, but the higher the heel, the more height you'll get, hence the more likely you are to nail this look. But I love ankle boots with a low heel, too, since they're more comfortable for daily wear. And anything over 4 inches can start to look vampy. Also, below-the-knee and long skirts don't seem to work with ankle boots no matter what your body type. Looks frumpy.

Here are 3 ways to wear ankle boots:
Left: With dark tights. On top, you could really wear any number of dresses, but I've chosen a very of-the-moment girly floral dress and black leather jacket combo. Difficulty level: Easy as pie.
Center: With cropped pants. Notice how that little chunk of white flesh visually breaks up my leg line? Yeah, it's not the most flattering thing in the world but it does have a fashion-y vibe that I like. You could wear dark tights under your pants to streamline the look (or add warmth when its cold). Try this look with harem pants if you're uber brave; cigarette pants if you're like me and slightly less of a risk-taker. Difficulty level: Hard.
Right: With leggings. This season, there are dozens of prints and fabrics to choose from for your leggings. The simplest solution is to pick black leggings with black ankle boots. Tuck in or scrunch over depending on the circumference of the boot shaft. Difficulty level: Intermediate.

    Influential International Style: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger knows what's up. As the female lead in Inglorious Basterds, as well as the less recent classics like Troy and Wicker Park, she never fails to sparkle in a performance. Although she won the Cannes Chopard Trophy in 2003, I have to say that her performance at Cannes this year really put her in the stratosphere. Her style is impeccable. She takes risks in interesting sleeves, cutaways, crazy patterns and haute couture texture. She tends to stick with basic black, but chooses outrageous texture and true haute couture. It's no wonder she's Karl Lagerfeld's little darling! One of the reasons she's looked so good lately? Karl himself has used her as a muse since she appeared in Chanel handbag ads in 2007. Lemondrop: Trinny and Susannah 'Make Over America' And Give ...

    image

We've loved Trinny and Susannah, the sassy ladies behind the original U.K. version of "What Not to Wear," from afar for a long time. So imagine our glee when we found out our two favorite inscrutable fashion experts were coming stateside to get fashion-truthy on us. Their new show, "Making Over America With Trinny and Susannah" (which debuts tonight on TLC at 10 p.m. EST) has the pair traipsing from Annapolis to Orlando, offering style advice and changing lives. The idea behind "Making Over America" is to keep it local. "It's not about whisking women off to someplace new," explains Trinny Woodall, who started her career in fashion more than fifteen years ago. "It's about going to their local main street and hair salon and figuring out what works." But Woodall and her partner Susannah Constantine don't just fix fashion mishaps on "Making Over," they also live and work with their charges: "We become cheerleading coaches and dolphin instructors. We see how they live and what they need."

7 Cute Dresses That Have Pockets, Too!

When it gets really hot out, we start living in dresses. It's kind of one of the best perks of being a chick, and makes getting ready in the morning a snap. However! "The pocket is a perfect example of good design," says Lee Muddle, co-curator of the Pocket Guide, an exhibit about pockets in fashion that will be on display this summer in Australia, and we couldn't agree more. Sew a pair of 'em into a dress and now you're really cooking, as you can ditch your bag, drop your keys, wallet, what-have-you in there and merrily skip on your way... or whatever. Goddamn we love it when a dress comes with pockets, don't you? Click over to our slideshow at TheFrisky to skim through the top seven we're craving right now.
