J.Lo, Katy, Or Vivica: Who Rocked Basic Black Best At The ...

It's no surprise that a documentary on the late and great Michael Jackson would draw in a crowd of A-list celebrities, all wanting to show their love and support for the King of Pop. The tragic and sudden death of the greatest entertainer of all time sent shock waves through the community and "This Is It" is one way to commemorate Jackson, as well as keep him with us for a little longer. Everybody who's anybody, and their mom and kids, showed up dressed to impress with styles ranging from dressed up tees to floor-sweeping gowns. One common color that celebrities showed up in was chic head-to-toe black ensembles that were edgy, sexy, sleek or just plain sweet. Perhaps it was out of respect for the loss that the Jackson family and the rest of the world has recently endured, but there's no denying that they all looked like "Pretty Young Things." So who do you think rocked the basic black look the best? Was it Jennifer Lopez in her edgy black panel sheath and rockin' knee boots? Or perhaps you preferred Katy Perry's lacy, glittering gown? And there's no question that Vivica A. Fox looked smoking in a body-hugging, one-shouldered mini. Take the poll below and let us know who you think looked best at the Michael Jackson's "This Is It' Premiere! Photo credit: PR Photos

Style Poll: Katie Holmes Goes Grunge, Love or Loathe?

    image

Katie Holmes is renowned for her high-fashion, ultra-glam style. Having become to used to seeing her decked out in beyond gorgeous designer garments, it was obviously a great shock when our glamor-girl went in the opposite direction, stepping out in grunge-inspired style complete with tattered and torn jeans that looked like they were lifted out of a pile meant for the Salvation Army. Thanks her solid status as a fashion-icon, this look is starting to catch on and is spreading to other fashion-forward starlets, becoming- dare I say it- a trend!

The Teen Choice Awards brought out everyone whose anyone in the land of young Hollywood, and expectedly, there was no shortage of fabulous fashions. The maxidress has been an explosive trend this summer and was the style of choice for several fashion-forward darlings from all walks of celebrity. Reality TV star/fashion designer Lauren Conrad went for an modernized hippie-inspired look wearing one-of-a-kind printed maxi she designed specifically for the event topped off with a skinny belt to keep from looking hyper-hippie. Actress/aspiring pop-star Hayden Panettiere also rocked a strapless maxi, but the bright abstract print gave her look a more romantic and flirty feel. Singer/aspiring movie star Fergie also opted for bold shades in a flowing Etro dress that had an edgy rocker meets haute-hippie vibe.

Style Poll: Pretty and Poofy, Or a Little Goofy?

Big textured dresses can be a bit intense, especially when worn alone, so is it smart to cinch at the waist with an eye-catching belt? Celebrities like Dania Ramirez and Michelle Monaghan have stepped onto the red carpet wearing poofy frocks cinched at the waist, a good strategy to keep from looking lost inside the layers of the dress, but I'm kind of torn about this style. On the one hand, I really love the contrast in color, having a solid color dress with a noticeable large belt. On the other, I really don't love how the belt makes the dress spill over from both sides, making it look like these ladies are wearing dessert, rather than expensive frocks!

Style Poll: The Second Coming of Sequins- Hot Or Not?

    image
Sabrina Newman on Jul 21, 2008 2:28 PM PDT
As much as I love fashion, the rate at which trends come and go can get pretty darn annoying sometimes! A few months ago, sequins were all the rage, remember that gold sequined dress worn by Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl that rendered all of us sequin fiends?? You couldn't even walk into a store without being blinded by glittery sequined pieces. Soon enough, the light began to fade and sequined numbers grew increasingly sparse. However, the celebs don't seem to want to let this trend die just yet and continue to step onto the red carpet in glittery frocks.

Style Hero: Her Bra Saved Her Life!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Jun 24, 2008 2:16 PM PDT
An American hiker stranded for days in the Bavarian Alps has been rescued after using - get this - her sports bra to attract the attention of her would-be rescuers. Apparently the 24 year old attached the underthing to a cable that made its way down to a group of lumberjacks, who were then able to contact rescue units. Wonder how she knew that that the universal signal for distress among timber workers was underwear? We don't recommend trying this at home, but if you must, while those lacy La Perlas attract a whole lot of attention elsewhere, they're far too delicate for life or death situations. But maybe I'm wrong?
