Our Favorite Spring Sandals For Under $100!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Mar 9, 2009 1:19 PM PDT
Spring is almost here, meaning my toes are officially in defrost mode (okay, it's not that cold here in SF, but work with me here) and that can only mean one thing- spring shoe shopping! To help ease the separation anxiety I'll likely be feeling with regard to my beloved boots, I've done a fair bit of fake sandal shopping to help raise excitement for warmer weather, excuses for pedicures, and mornings not characterized by the super awkward process known as pulling on warm Wolford tights. Uh, spring couldn't come any faster. But onto the shoes! Look for nude and cream tones as they'll match with nearly everything, and some pairs will even carry you into the colder months- but who wants to talk about that. On the other hand (er.. foot) don't be afraid of color! Bright shoes lend themselves wonderfully to spring's neutral tones and are a great way to try bursts of color if you're not all that keen on neon yellow in large doses. Click on the slideshow for the 10 pairs of sandals on my wishlist this spring! Oh, and they're all under $100, so buying more than one pair is encouraged.

Five Hot Designer Heels That You Can Actually Walk In!

    image

It's hard to forget the many falls on Prada's spring runway, not to mention the catwalk stumbles at Rodarte,Pucci and Peter Som. It's a long way down for those tall models to begin with -- why not throw on some 5 inch heels? TIMBER! These models are trained professionals. If they can't walk in those heels, how are we mere mortals supposed to even attempt it? With shoes getting taller, the danger level has hit an ultimate high. The best-selling Yves Saint Laurent "Tribute" sandal has an ankle twisting, leg breaking 5 1/2 inch heel. At this rate, they're going to have to start making designer crutches too. It's becoming more and more difficult to find a sexy, high-heeled shoe that doesn't resemble that of a stripper's, let alone a torture device. In my attempt to save us all from sprained ankles and busted knees, I'm making this plea to designers: Please make less dangerous shoes! In the meantime, check out my slideshow for my top five picks of sensibly sexy shoes, all with heels under 3 and a half inches.

Check out the slideshow to see how tall hair and even taller heels will make your style soar this fall, and don't forget to pop over to Elle to see all must-have fall trends, all the way from A to Zee.

Elle's Fall A to Zee Trends: Feathered Trim

Feathers are an excellent way to bring decadent colors and textures to your favorite fall fashions. Designers are adding feathers to a variety of pieces this fall, from hats and bags to shirts and even skirts. Steal some style inspiration from Her Royal Highness, the Queen of England; her always fabulous hats use feathers to make a sophisticated statement. There are also a variety of different colors, textures, and sizes of feathered trims to choose from. Create drama by layering incandescent teal peacock plumes, as they add an almost metallic quality to clothing. The soft and tawny russet of pheasant feathers also fit in perfectly with fall's rustic colors and textures. Check out Elle's A to Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and click on our SLIDESHOW to see some stunning examples of this trend, straight from the Hive.
