Don't you just love seeing Project Runway castoffs rise from the ashes and really do something with their talent? We've seen plenty of Christian Siriano in the fashion week circuit, and even some strange Santino Rice cameos on various reality shows.. but now it's Jerell Scott's turn. The season 5 veteran launched his Fall 2009 collection at One Take Studio in downtown LA this past weekend over drinks and hors d'oeuvres... and an opening performance by Macy Gray! The intimate venue provided guests with an up-close look at the collection, including an accompanying photo exhibit by E Leon Myers and even an exclusive sneak preview at his upcoming Spring 2010 line. Inspired by indigenous people all over the world, the collection boasted flowing fabrics, bold prints and an undeniable tribal energy that foreshadowed many innovative and promising things to come from the designer! Take a look at the slideshow for some pictures of the event and his collection!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Anna Sui

Anna Sui has definitely kept herself busy this season, between her much anticipated Gossip Girl-themed Target collaboration and the stunningly rich circus-themed Spring 2010 collection she debuted just days ago at New York Fashion Week. Preppy separates like cable knit sweaters, pleated skirts, and coordinating jackets were given a playful spin with Peter Pan-collared tops, vividly printed silk shirts, and the most whimsical patchwork jacket imaginable. A steady stream of purple and grey looks gave way to splashes of pink, green, and orange for some eye-brightening variety. Patterns appeared to be haphazardly layered together at first, but with a more careful perusal, the mixing and matching produced an end result that was actually quite seamless- in some cases, it was difficult to see where one piece ended and another began! Purely intriguing, I tell you. My favorite look was the printed shorts and tie-neck blue peeking out from a marching band-inspired vest- and who could forget the sequined mask (worn as a headband- kind of brilliant, right?) on the always adorable Sasha Pivovarova? New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: 3.1 Phillip Lim

It's no big secret in the Stylehive office that I'm a huge fan of Phillip Lim so of course I jumped at the chance to cover his fashion show! His latest collection shown at Fashion Week featured a red runway with mirrored backdrop which set the tone for the looks. The models were all business with a modern suit in a deep red double breasted jacket and matching shorts. Lim featured many menswear inspired looks including a grey v-neck sweater over a long silky button front shirt with a bit of a lacy slip peeking out. The 3.1 Phillip Lim woman of next spring may be all business, but they are well aware of their femininity too. Asymmetrical dresses with appliques on the bodice or a sheer lace crop top in chartreuse paired with a matching high-waisted trouser breezed down the runway. Odds are that we'll be seeing these looks again on the set of Gossip Girl or on the red carpet on the likes of Lim's celeb fans like Camilla Belle or Kate Bosworth. Beauty looks to be aware of are side-parted hair and strong eyebrows. Take a peek at my slideshow for some of my favorite looks from the show!

Inspired by the colors of the Rosa Cha Spring 2010 collection, hairstylist Edward Tricomi and MAC makeup artist Philippe Chancel created a fresh, feminine look for the runway. The hair was styled into chic chignons and the makeup was kept minimal. From bright bandeaus to an iridescent glow, the two pros shared with me how to recreate this summery look.

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Zac Posen

Despite being moved from his usual prime-time spot in Bryant Park's main tent, Zac Posen's Spring/Summer 2010 show hardly suffered in the slightly quieter Altman Building -- even at 9 in the morning. His assortment of party frocks (with a couple relaxed pantsuits thrown into the mix) seemed even more youthful and fun in the building's less stuffy surroundings, and with the collection's refreshing prints and energetic color combinations -- lime with fuchsia, lemon yellow with salmon pink -- Posen couldn't have started the morning off on a livelier note! While the designer is always expected to show off a gaggle of fun cocktail dresses every season, this particular selection somehow seemed especially modern and unique -- maybe due to its overall futuristic stewardess/Judy Jetson vibe. And to amp up the flirt factor, he even embellished certain ensembles with metallic lip print cut-outs, a detail that served like a cherry on top of a super-chic sundae. Take a gander at the slideshow for a peek at the collection!
