Sequins Finally See The Light Of Day!

    image

Maybe I'm easily distracted, but I'm just naturally drawn to sparkle. All a shirt needs is to be bedazzled in sequins, twinkling at me from its hanger, and I'm instantly a sucker! So you can imagine my delight when I started noticing that the flashy sewn-on embellishments, once reserved for dressy nights out on the town and mermaid costumes, are becoming increasingly wearable for all hours of the day, showing up on summery dresses, floaty tunics, and even casual cropped vests. I guess someone finally came to their senses and realized that daytime is the time to get the most sparkle from their shiny sun-reflective surfaces! So don't worry about feeling like a disco ball -- indulge in your love of sparkle, whether just with a shimmery neckline or a fully sparkled sheath, and get your shine on all day long with some of my favorite pieces in the slideshow!

Shimmering Makeup Shades For Just A Dash Of Summer Sparkle

    image

When it comes to summer beauty, it's all about strategically playing up certain features that pop -- and what better way to give your beauty look plenty of star power than with a touch of glitter? Now I know what you may be thinking: no, I'm not trying to make you channel Adam Lambert or force you to relive your preteen days experimenting with roll-on glitter gel and butterfly clips. Sure, shimmer isn't exactly for the wallflowers, but when applied with a modest (and steady!) hand, it's a bold beauty risk that pays off on any day of the week (not just on Halloween)! To avoid glimmer overload, stick to sparkling only one feature at a time -- whether you opt for dazzling lips or shimmery cheekbones -- and keep the rest of your face matte and minimal, for the most part. Over-doing the shine everywhere and anywhere may have you looking too much like a "Dancing With The Stars" contestant, even without the sequined salsa gown to tip you over the edge of what is considered wearable (and sane). Check the slideshow for some of my favorite glitzy products!

Holiday How-To: Dressing Sparkly Without Looking Cheap!

The holidays are the perfect time to shine. However, as any fashionable girl who's been to a holiday party can tell you, there are definitely ways to have a sparkly holiday take a wrong turn at Cheap St. and end up in Hookerville. Fear not, ladies, for I have gathered several twinkling options for the rest of your holiday occasions! At the top of my Christmas list is the Betsey Johnson 'Savoy' strapless dress- with its satin sweetheart top and high-waisted sequin skirt, it fits like a dream. (Are you listening, Santa baby? It's such a new take on a black and white dress that I might NEED it!) Fewer brands with a celebrity following make me drool more than Haute Hippie, and this sequin stripe dress is no exception. It would even be cute for a night out over skinny black jeans! Check out my slideshow for plenty of cheap-free sparkle-full holiday dress options!

Fashion Poll: What Should I Wear To My Vegas Bachelorette Party?

    image

In a couple weeks I will be embarking for a bachelorette weekend in none-other-than, Las Vegas, Nevada. As excited as I am to visit the famed hot spot (it will be my first time!), I'm already fretting about what to pack. This may be my maiden voyage to Vegas, but I want to look well-versed in Sin City style. I have long been inspired by the city: its brilliant neon lights, the sequined outfits of showgirls, the glowing casino games, and most of all, the anything goes attitude. In terms of what to bring for nights out on the town, I'm envisioning dresses that are just dripping with glamour yet still young and fun. Sparkles and sequins, luxe animal prints, eye-catching metallics, and maybe even a few neons. But how can I channel the over-the-top Sin City glitz and glam without looking like a flop? Well my fellow Stylehivers, this is where you come in.. I want to save my gambling spirit for the casino floor and not risk it while preparing for this trip. So I've created a poll with 3 possible Vegas looks - vote for your favorite right now! I can't wait to see which look wins!

Style Icon: M.I.A.'s Aerobic Instructor Chic

After witnessing major political unrest when visiting Sri Lanka, M.I.A.'s mother locked her in a room for a week. Literally. She said, "the only things in the room were a shelf with every Hindu god you could think of -- all 184 of them -- a locked cabinet and a sewing machine. By day three, I started taking down the curtains and making outfits. There was nothing else to do!" And that is how a style star is born.
