Vintage Fashionistas Seize The Day In Sequins

    image

'Tis the season for sequins! These little dazzlers aren't just for evening or holidays anymore. They're popping up everywhere for fall and yes, they can absolutely be worn during the day. But to avoid looking like a Las Vegas showgirl, you might want to keep a few tips in mind. First, dress 'em down. Make one sparkly item your focal point. Think a sequin vest with jeans and a tee or a sequin cardigan with a tank. Then choose matte accessories. Sequins add enough shimmer and shine to an outfit so pick boots, bracelets and bags with a flat finish. And finally, keep shapes uncomplicated. For day, sequins work best on simple shapes like classic tees and shifts. Now just click the slideshow for a dazzling array of fabulous vintage sequin finds!

Sequins Finally See The Light Of Day!

Maybe I'm easily distracted, but I'm just naturally drawn to sparkle. All a shirt needs is to be bedazzled in sequins, twinkling at me from its hanger, and I'm instantly a sucker! So you can imagine my delight when I started noticing that the flashy sewn-on embellishments, once reserved for dressy nights out on the town and mermaid costumes, are becoming increasingly wearable for all hours of the day, showing up on summery dresses, floaty tunics, and even casual cropped vests. I guess someone finally came to their senses and realized that daytime is the time to get the most sparkle from their shiny sun-reflective surfaces! So don't worry about feeling like a disco ball -- indulge in your love of sparkle, whether just with a shimmery neckline or a fully sparkled sheath, and get your shine on all day long with some of my favorite pieces in the slideshow!

Shimmering Makeup Shades For Just A Dash Of Summer Sparkle

When it comes to summer beauty, it's all about strategically playing up certain features that pop -- and what better way to give your beauty look plenty of star power than with a touch of glitter? Now I know what you may be thinking: no, I'm not trying to make you channel Adam Lambert or force you to relive your preteen days experimenting with roll-on glitter gel and butterfly clips. Sure, shimmer isn't exactly for the wallflowers, but when applied with a modest (and steady!) hand, it's a bold beauty risk that pays off on any day of the week (not just on Halloween)! To avoid glimmer overload, stick to sparkling only one feature at a time -- whether you opt for dazzling lips or shimmery cheekbones -- and keep the rest of your face matte and minimal, for the most part. Over-doing the shine everywhere and anywhere may have you looking too much like a "Dancing With The Stars" contestant, even without the sequined salsa gown to tip you over the edge of what is considered wearable (and sane). Check the slideshow for some of my favorite glitzy products!

Go Glitterati with a Sparkling Sequined Skirt

Get inspired for fun and frivolity with sparkly sequin skirts. These 'sparklers' are not just for Independence Day! Add a new dimension to your wardrobe with the continuing metallic trend. Sequined skirts look best when paired with a solid colored blouse or tank. Two standout styles we love are this light yellow "Lemoncello" skirt from Robert Rodriguez (bottom right) and Proenza Schouler's swing skirt version in black (top right). Pair your sequined skirt with a pretty solid color sleeveless blouse and statement making chunky woven platforms.

On summer nights, almost anything goes. Shorts, slinky dresses, sequin t-shirts... anything. Whether you're hanging with the beachy Hamptons crowd or sucking up the humidity in New York City, all women should have the following go-to pieces to be prepared for wherever the summer night will lead them. The Day-to-Night Skirt: Every social butterfly needs a quick-change item. The kind of functional skirt that can dressed down for daytime activities and instantly dressed up with a pair of heels. Perfect for those who need to literally run out their door. Dressy Shorts: While most guys are forbidden to wear shorts at night, no bouncer will say anything if a girl dons a pair. Black shorts are the perfect summer staple to pair with any of your favorite summer tops. Sequined Tee: Anything with a hint of sparkle or sequin is sure to be a perfect nighttime staple. No jewelry needed. Sexy LBD: Ok, every season needs a sexy LBD, and this is our justification to buy another one just for summer. These are just a few great and versatile summer night staples! Look Chic in Menswear for New Year's Eve!

Sick and tired of wearing the same little black dress on New Year's Eve? While it's typically a night for sequins and sparkles, you don't have to go to road most traveled. Set a resolution not to be dressed like everyone else and try something new! By 'new' I mean some sexy menswear that is sure to catch the eye of your special someone when the clock strikes midnight. Start with some black trouser or tuxedo pants, even buy them a size too big to get a cool slouchy look, a la Olsen twin. Top it off with a girly take on a menswear shirt, like this killer steal from J.Crew. Instead of a blazer or tuxedo jacket, try this season's must-have: an oversized vest- my pick is a long white silk one from Josh Goot. To keep the look sexy, sky high heels are a must. Finish the look off with a shiny patent clutch bag and a big bauble ring for some sparkle...it is New Year's Eve after all! Check out the slideshow to get all the pieces for this killer look.
