Our Top 10 Looks From Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week!

    image

There is so much more to fashion than what comes down the runways in London, Paris, and Milan, and if you need further proof, take a look at the talent exhibited by designers who showed collections at Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week. A quick look through a couple of collections left me with the impression that the focus was on expression rather than the creation of a future trend, and collections are much more imaginative as a result-- I'm guessing not having Anna, Carine, and company perched in the front row has something to do with that, and it's immensely refreshing. From lingerie-inspired looks at Alberto Tous to the explosion of color that is the Agatha Ruiz De La Prada show, I was definitely impressed. Take a look at my slideshow to see the Spanish designers you'll want to keep an eye on come Spring!

Ole! A Touch Of Spain In Your Summer Style!

    image

Flowy white dresses and light linen layers are still feminine and flirty summer staples, but this season, designers are really stepping it up! The theme for this summer is bold and bright! Pop colors, ruffles and the hourglass shape are taking over the neutral shades and simple silhouettes of summers past. All these stimulating colors and fun details are reminiscent of traditional Spanish clothing twisted with modern edge, giving this style trend an air of classic sophistication while making a sexy and chic statement all at once! Cropped and embellished boleros are perfect summer outerwear, covering just enough for cooler summer nights and really standing out as the key piece to an ensemble. Or really vamp up the sexy, feminine side and sashay your way into sunshine with a tiered and ruffled dress like a modern day Flamenco dancer! Girly details just not your thing? No worries! Leggings with high-waists and other Spanish-inspired details are definitely in, as are decorated button-downs and embroidery and embellishments on everything! Check out the slide-show for more eye-catching, colorful items inspired by the beauty and culture of Spain!

Breathtaking seascapes and beaches, eccentric cultures, and the planet's biggest party destination? What more could you ask for! Summer in Ibiza really means season of soiree, as the beginning of June marks the kickoff for the largest and craziest nightclubs in the world. There's no excuse for skipping the nightlife here, with beach bars for daytime playtime, hot spots to sip and watch the sunset, raging parties for nighttime nonsense, and after party bars that extend the hours of the semi-regulated closing time of 6am. If you're one who's gotta have their party and their getaway, The Insotel Fenicia Prestige is just the place to get the luxury time you need in between flitting about the boundless social scene. This first class resort features its own top-notch bars and restaurants, spectacular views and services, and a spa to spoil you senseless, all making for a secluded kind of fun for even the most zealous of party people to recuperate. With suites galore, who could say no to amenity lists featuring luxuries like "terrace" and "hydromassage shower" epitomized by the surroundings of this immensely beautiful island? The hotel's location says it all, close enough to the hot spots, yet away enough to tour Ibiza's natural beauty. With exhausting hidden beaches and coves to explore via Vespa, even the party-pooper will flip over the incredible Balearic island adventure in store within the outskirts of the resort. Whether it be club or cove hopping, this quickly-navigable, small but bustling hotspot of an island will be the intoxicating getaway you've been craving!

Lisbon Fashion Week HeartCore Winter 2010: Custo Barcelona

    image

Seeing virtually psychedelic color on the runway is nothing new these days, but nobody does bright and bold quite like Custo Barcelona. Brothers David and Custo Dalmau came up with the idea for Custo while on a motorcycle trip across the states, and when they returned to their native Barcelona, Custo was born. Inspired by the lax attitude of southern California, the line features shirts, suits, and even swimwear in their signature patterns and illustrations. Their Winter 2010 show at Lisbon Fashion Week was an experiment in texture and pattern, where sheer overlays and vibrant mohair-like fabric met embellishment in the form of sequins, stripes, and fringe. Peacock feather details, sheer florals, and rosettes were mixed and matched with structured jackets, bodycon skirts and short sleeved tops. Menswear looks were no less tame, with two-toned, acid-washed and graphic printed suits toned down with sneakers and lace-up boots. Somehow the seemingly outlandish colors and textures meshed flawlessly, with vibrant blues, purples, kelly green, coral, and black tones forming the palette. Favorite looks included full, intricately ruffled skirts with vertically placed strips of contrasting patterned fabric, and a brightly striped top and delicate floral skirt combo reminiscent of Marc by Marc Jacobs. If winter looks this good, I can only imagine what's in store for spring and summer! Click on the slideshow to see more from Custo Barcelona at Lisbon Fashion Week. Photo credit: PR Photos
