    SOPHOMORE Spring Is Online Now!

    image

Faced with the prospect of a so-called heat wave making its way to San Francisco today, I was especially happy to find a refreshing message in my inbox from SOPHOMORE: their spring collection is finally online! Actually, "refreshing" doesn't do the collection justice. Standing in front of the freezer with the door open is refreshing. The spring looks from SOPHOMORE are just plain cool. Think cutout dresses, easy fitting tanks, simple, original graphic tees, and of course, a fun spin on last fall's zipper skirt. It's really all about the colors for this collection- creamsicle orange and dusty blue offer an effortless, lived-in look that couldn't be more perfect. Our 10 Favorite Ways To Give (Or Keep) The Peace

Peace signs aren't exactly associated with the most fashion-forward among us, but the icon that characterized way too much of my middle school wardrobe is coming back, and if this isn't music to your ears, you might have to take it up with Barneys Creative Director Simon Doonan, whose 'Hippie Holiday' campaign has renewed many a shopper's love for the iconic symbol and the culture it represents.

So what does this mean? Aside from dizzyingly psychedelic store windows, there are tons of peace sign-emblazoned items to be found, from wearable to edible and everything in between! And Barneys isn't the only retailer who knows it- Free People, DOGEARED, and Felix Rey have put their own spin on peace with tasteful handbags, jewelry, and decor.

Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Zippers

Ever been told to "zip it?" Chances are it was in reference to your mouth and not your clothes. Lucky for us, fashions speak louder than words, so the next time you're told to "zip it," why not use the opportunity to try your hand at the zippered trend? Even the simplest basics get a cool dose of downtown edge with the addition of an exposed zipper, like Miss Sixty's long-sleeved tee. For a rugged twist on a classic style, pull on Phillip Lim's trench-style skirt with a silver zip panel. If you think zippers are only for clothes and handbags, think again- jewelry's in on the action too. Just look at Khoon Hooi's metallic masterpiece- the light fabric is perfectly juxtaposed with swirling, undone zippers for a raw and yet still refined result. A pair of delicately zippered gloves serves as a more subtle nod to this trend, while a zip-front dress in purple is equal parts sexy and playful. Go to Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and then click on the slideshow for our favorite zippered looks from the Hive. To see all of fall's top trends in one place, click here.

Next Big Thing: SOPHOMORE NYC Builds on Successful Tee Shirt Line

    image

Any fashion blog or magazine will tell you to never go out in head-to-toe Designer X. Sound advice. But every rule has its exceptions, and SOPHOMORE NYC is one exception we're willing to make over, and over, and over again. Inspired by the classic, albeit 'rough around the edges' simplicity of downtown New York City, designer Chrissie Miller knew she was onto something when the t-shirts she had originally created for her friends were suddenly the source of increasing demand among celebrities and retailers. Miller's next step was teaming up with Madeleine von Froomer, and with Froomer's background at Proenza Schouler, the two started adding versatile pieces to the already successful ultra-soft tees - skirts, dresses, jackets, and hoodies, with SOPHOMORE's signature perfect fit and characteristically edgy downtown attitude. I spoke to Chrissie about how she got her start and where she gets her ideas. Read on to see what she told me, and see the SLIDESHOW for our SOPHOMORE fall must-haves.
