Stylish And Comfy Countryside-Chic Inspiration For Your Home!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Nov 10, 2009 4:28 PM PST
As much as I like the more edgy take on fashion these days, it's all about comfort and relaxation for me when it comes to my home. So while I may don some leather leggings and fingerless gloves, I want to be able to return home and breathe a sigh of relief, curl up and be comfortable. Overstuffed furniture, wicker accents and countryside-inspired prints and florals are reminiscent of a cozy house and home style. So while mom can't be there everyday whipping up her famous chicken noodle soup and green bean casserole, you can add a few things around the house that give you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Check out the slideshow for some easy ideas on how to make your living space country chic and comfortable!

Sitting Pretty: Chic And Comfortable Tufted Furniture

Unlike many of my friends, I actually like firm furniture and beds. If I sleep on a soft and mushy bed, I wake up with a sore back. Guess I could blame it on my semester abroad in Taiwan where I slept on a bamboo mat for four months. Hard as a rock beds and wooden furniture are now my priorities when shopping for my home. That's when I discovered the beauty of tufted furniture! I know tufted pieces can seem really old fashioned and taken right out of Versailles, but I can imagine just getting one or two and having it look super chic with my minimalist (read: IKEA) furniture. Best of all, it's a nice balance between firm and soft. I really like the convertible couch found over at PB Teen which doubles as a sofa and a full size bed, and this velvet ottoman from Brocade Home which does triple duty as an ottoman, coffee table, and extra seating. I can imagine Goldilocks finding tufted furniture "just right." Take a look at my slideshow for more!

I'm sure there are some days in your life where all you want to to is just get home, curl up in a ball on your sofa and veg out to junk food and sappy movies. What better way to do it than on the Lunar Mini Round Lounge Sofa from Dania Furniture! A modern cocoon that reminds me of those retro ball chairs, the sofa is perfect for one or two. True to its name, sit in it and you'll want to lounge forever. It comes in red or taupe fabric to go with most color schemes, but the hardest decision will be who gets to sit in it first. For those who can't decide, there's always the larger Stellar Round Lounge Sofa! So change into your pajamas and pop in your favorite DVD for a well-deserved and relaxing night in.

    Price: $795

Our Favorite Couch Potato-Approved Blankets And Throws!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Nov 25, 2008 4:09 PM PST
It's finally getting cold in San Francisco, and I plan on using the suddenly season-appropriate weather to my advantage. And while actually having a decent excuse for skipping out on a morning run due to impending rain is probably causing an irrational level of excitement as it is, it's the idea of staying indoors and drinking hot cocoa with marshmallows three times a day (Sugar Free Swiss Miss, I am forever indebted to you) that's really making me appreciate the weather. Since there's really nothing better than spending a chilly day curled up on the couch with your favorite book, DVD, person, or bottle of wine (in the evening, of course), I've put together an assortment of cozy blankets and throws that will make those moments even more irresistible! I'm especially drawn to the cable knit throws that luxury knitwear label Lutz & Patmos created in collaboration with West Elm- imagine your favorite oversized sweater made even bigger- then imagine sleeping in it. Might want to have these gift wrapped when you order them so your potential holiday gifts don't fall victim to a love at first snuggle situation! Check out the slideshow for my favorites.

8 Preppy Finds to Give Your Home Clean-Cut Glamour!

    image

Preppy is getting a fresh, modern spin these days with 50s-chic home decor in bright colors and bold patterns. The quintessentially preppy pink-and-green color combo is getting a run for its money with preppy pieces in blue, red, and- my personal fave- chocolate brown. To incorporate the preppy trend into your home, look for pieces in argyle, plaid, and sharp graphic patterns. Even better, look for patterned pieces that can be monogrammed to really put your, ahem, personal stamp on the season's squeaky clean and oh-so-glam looks. For a peek at 8 fab preppy home accessories, check out my slideshow!

With the economy tanking and the cold weather upon us, you may be coming down with a case of the blues. Not to worry, though! With a few changes to your home, you can make it all cozy and comforting - and lift those stylish spirits of yours! Try adding comfy pillows and throws to your bed or couch, like colorful ones by Missoni or luxurious ones by Loro Piana. Scented candles from Diptyque can calm you down after a long day at work, while you listen to the soothing waterfall that is your beautiful new indoor wall fountain. And don't forget a cup of tea poured from a fabulous antique teapot before you sink into bed and fall asleep to the crashing waves coming from your nature sound machine. Done and done! Now check out the slideshow of my five favorite cozy home items in the Hive!
