New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Brian Reyes

    image

When designer Brian Reyes noted backstage that his Spring/Summer 2010 collection contained "all the things he loves," he wasn't exaggerating. Even though his runway seemed to boast everything but the kitchen sink -- from sheer lingerie to multicolored high-waisted shorts to metallic off-the-shoulder dresses to ink blots(?!) -- he still managed to maintain a sophisticated sense of balance. Floaty ruffled blouses were reined in with cinched belts, and bustier dresses got a dose of high-wattage color to keep things young and fun, not vampy. As for the silk rorschach test body suit? That's the result of a creative thought process that perhaps only Reyes' #1 fan Rachel Bilson would fully understand. Flip through the slideshow to see some of the show-stopping ensembles!

Beach Feet: Flip Into Something A Bit More Comfortable!

Flip, flop, flip, flop. It's hard not to hear that summer's here! You know the sound -- the one that classifies an entire genre of footwear simply by the sound they make as you skip down the street. Since the middle of the last century, the fun thong sandals have made their mark as summer's top shoe choice. Famous for beating the heat, a pair of these make sun and sweat a breeze on those record-breaking hot days. Most important, however, is the signature impact they've had on swim-season fashion. If you're not barefoot on the beach, a pair of flip flops aren't too far out of sight, so matching your beachwear ensemble is top priority in picking your sand-safe kicks. They're the most basic of footwear, yet the most essential, as they're easy to throw on to get the job done, and with the right pair, you won't have to sacrifice comfort or sleek style. They're also lightweight and great for travel, so a pair that works for both a day at the beach and a night on the town is essential. To make them stand out from the Y straps of yesteryear, sling on a pair that boasts a little more edge for a flip that will make others flop! Here's a slideshow with some stylish picks to kick off this season's sound of summer.

Stylediary Spotlight: Susie Bubble Is One Gutsy Fashionista!

This Stylediarist lives by the mantra anything goes. When Susie Bubble dresses it's all about personal style. Forget the basic rule of concealing your delicates-- bras are worn over clothing, a skirt floats over a dainty slip- sans blouse. This Londoner is one gutsy dresser, and I am fully inspired. She admits on her profile that when it comes to fashion there is nothing worse than the clothing wearing the person, and in full agreement I assure you she does not have this problem. While I would deem her style experimental eclecticism, she's right in stating that she doesn't really fit in to any style category, and really why fit in when you can play and experiment? Check out Susie Bubble's Stylediary but first check out some of my picks of her outfits in the slideshow.
