Slip-On Sneakers Offer The Ultimate Laceless, Low Maintenance ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 9, 2009 8:17 AM PDT
Summer, whether or not you have the time off, is all about embracing laziness. After all, when it's this hot outside, it can be tough to even muster enough energy to rise from your lounge chair to get a refill on your lemonade. So naturally, you can't possibly be bothered to do something as strategic as tie your shoes every time you leave the house. But what if flip-flops aren't suitable for the situation at hand? Enter slip-on sneakers -- the athletic yet cute alternative when you want to keep things casual but don't want the hassle of unlacing or re-knotting each time you want to kick them off or slide them back on. Go for a tieless version of your trusty Converse Chuck Taylors, or if slides are more your style, take a look at these cute backless bikers from Bebe! Whichever brand you choose, whether made for speed or style, slip-ons are perfect for sliding on and off at the beach or slipping into in a snap when you're running late! Check the slideshow for some of my favorite pairs.

Plan a Bond-Worthy Escape To The One&Only Ocean Club In The ...

This winter, if you are craving to escape somewhere that is tropical, elegant, and definitely splurge-worthy, consider the One&Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas. Since the Ocean Club was featured in the James Bond flick Casino Royale just a couple of years back, fans of Bond (or maybe just Daniel Craig) may already feel familiar with the resort's hushed decadence and luxe British colonial decor. Luckily, you don't have to be a dashing British spy to enjoy this fabulous resort located, very fittingly, on Paradise Island. What was once a private estate and mid-1900's Hollywood hot spot, the "Club" is now an enchanting escape and island playground for the adventurous travelers, the spa-lovers, the golfers, and the gourmands alike. Craving relaxation? Then grab a good book, a beach towel, and a frozen drink and spend the day on the resort's pristine and private alabaster beach. Craving excitement? Then walk next door to the neighboring 18-hole championship golf course, or stay resort-side to try some jet-skiing, snorkeling, or exploring of the Club's stunningly landscaped Versailles gardens. Enjoy High Tea, complimentary afternoon champagne (served by butlers, of course), and at sundown head over to the beachside restaurant, Dune, for cocktails and critically-acclaimed French-Colonial cuisine. So whether you come to the eat caviar and stay in one of the Club's private villas just like your favorite British secret agent, or if you are simply craving a chic yet exotic getaway, consider Bahamas hot spot the One&Only Ocean Club. Click SLIDESHOW for more information and pictures of the fabulous Ocean Club resort.

We're Head Over Heels For These Handmade Headpieces!

Feathers, flowers, and over-sized bows- oh my! These adorable headpieces are literally popping up everywhere from the Spring '09 collections of Luella and Diane von Furstenberg even to my Friday night out. I'm going to shy away from terms like "headgear," as I've heard the word used to describe these accessories, but frankly I find it a bit off-putting and rather inaccurate and it kind of reminds me of those awkward childhood sleepovers when at bedtime a new friend put on this elaborate mechanical device to my shock and utter horror. But back to the matter at hand, these adorable headpieces that stole our hearts as children are once again finding their way atop our heads. Using the all-things-handmade online marketplace Etsy, young and innovative designers are making quite a splash (and some cash) with these charming creations and the creative competition has skyrocketed, yielding a plethora of designs to choose from. From delicate feather arrangements to floral garnishes all the way to whimsical scenes, these headpieces make it possible to adorn your head with pretty much whatever you please! Some of my favorite headpiece designers available on Etsy are portobello, charmschooldesign, and twelvetwentyeight. These crafty ladies have me reminiscing about my childhood (and no, not in the bedtime-braces kind of way) and they definitely have me clicking on PayPal. Take a gander at some of my favorite headpieces in my slideshow and also be sure to stop by their Etsy shops to see more!

Moisturize With Buttercream Frosting, Exfoliate With Parfait!

The creators of Jaqua Bath & Beauty must be geniuses. Not only have they found a way to successfully combine bath time and dessert time without the usual crumbs in the tub effect, but their line of beauty accessories are so stunningly packaged that you'll be more than a little tempted to leave them out on the counter for display. My roommate, Lauren, was the first to get me hooked on the line. When we moved in together she kindly forewarned me that the delicious buttercream smelling stuff in the bathroom was not frosting, but body butter. Would have fooled me. The Jaqua Shea Buttercream Body Butter is just about the consistency of those little Betty Crocker tubs of pre-made frosting. And the smell? It's on the dot. I was already sold on the line when Lauren tempted me once again, this time with Jaqua Peach Parfait Exfoliating Body Polish. Now, I'd usually take chocolate cake over peach parfait any day, but this magical beauty concoction had even me rethinking my hierarchy of favorite desserts. Words cannot do justice to describe how soft my skin felt and how good I smelled. I literally erupted from the shower and onto the computer to order some Jaqua products for myself. So whether you are looking for some new accessories to spruce up your bathroom or for the perfect gift, you must search the Hive for Jaqua Bath & Beauty products. And be sure to check out my SLIDESHOW for my five favorites from their line.
