Add Some Shape With A Tulip Skirt!

    image

A lot of brands and designers have been embracing the curves of women with larger hips, and although I think it's great for fashionable clothing to be available for women of all shapes and sizes, what if you have the opposite problem of hips that are too slender or don't help to define your waistline? Tulip skirts are a great way to add a bit of shape and volume to the hip area, perfect for women who struggle with square or small hips. They also help make the legs look longer, and they have a bit of a princess quality about them. Tulip skirts are pretty and feminine, and can really help create the shape you want if you usually have trouble wearing short skirts. I love this satin pleated tulip skirt from Arden B. -- it comes in several colors, and it's only $44. It even has pockets!

Vintage Fashionistas Savor Gray This Season!

    image
Mary Kincaid on Nov 20, 2009 8:18 AM PST
When searching for vintage clothing online, it's important that you use the right keywords to find what you want. And heaven forbid you're looking for something gray, because well, there's gray (the American spelling) and then there's grey (the British spelling). Of course, since vintage clothing sellers on both sides of the pond spell this color both ways without any sensible rhyme or reason, the wise online vintage shopper knows to plug both spellings into their search engines. If you do, you'll be rewarded with a smorgasbord of vintage treats in this classic, conservative neutral. Try substituting darker charcoal shades of gray for black. Or choose pale shades of gray to take the place of white. Morning, noon or night, for dresses, coats or evening gowns, gray is a fabulous wardrobe choice for a vintage fashionista. CollegeCandy Presents 8 Under $20: Urban Outfitters!

    image

I have a love/hate relationship with Urban Outfitters. I fall madly in love with everything on the racks, but hate how much they charge for shirts, skirts and dresses that usually fall apart after a few go-rounds in the washing machine. But then I fall in love again when those trendy little Urban employees stock the sale racks with all that gorgeous goodness. The Urban sale section might be one of the only ones I'm willing to elbow, shove and push my way through. They have some of the best deals around on some serious cuteness, much of it $19.99 or less! Here are some of my favorite pieces that are all under $20. The best part: you don't even have to leave the comfort of your couch or tempt yourself with the rest of the overpriced items en route to the sale section. The dress on the left will look fantastic with some tights and a skinny belt around the middle. Mix it with an oversized cardi or sweater coat and you've got a super cute outfit for a night out. Pair the tunic on the right with some leggings, a cozy sweater and some knee boots and look put-together yet totally comfortable for class. Click over to our friends at College Candy for more!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Doo. Ri

    image

Doo. Ri has always been known for soft, fluid fabrics and innovative, but completely wearable designs that showcase modern twists on classically feminine styles. Using a sweetly somber palette of creams, blues and metal grey tones, designer Doo. Ri Chung edged out her designs with tiny chain and mesh overlays. There was a large variety of dresses, skirts and short shorts that featured details such as clever draping, soft, fluttering tiers, origami-inspired pleats and, as the trends have predicted, high hemlines to show off long, tanned legs for the next spring and summer seasons. Doo. Ri presented a collection of sexy and modern dresses and skirts that still manage to be alluringly feminine. See more from Doo. Ri at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week in the slideshow!

CollegeCandy Shows How To Jump On The High-Waisted Skirt Trend!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Sep 11, 2009 5:18 AM PDT
Like most of you, I am a [recently graduated but not willing to accept it] college student who would rather dish out money for fashion than food. But sometimes, like in a recession (or when I'm really hungry), that doesn't work out so well. A girl's gotta eat (and look fabulous), right? Which is why I was having some serious issues lately. You see, I am in love with the whole high-waisted skirt look that I see on celebs like Lauren Conrad and Amanda Bynes. It's slimming and cute and I loooove it. But I can't justify spending a good chunk of change on a skirt that will be out of style in 6 months when I have 10 perfectly fine skirts lining my closet. So I decided to figure out a way to turn what I already got into what I want. Turns out, it's not that hard to make your own high-waisted skirt. Even for crafty rejects like myself. Color blocking and tried and true solids are great for numerous occasions, but cosmic powers have stated that prints are the way to go! Prints add interest to an outfit and are a good way to show your personal taste and style. An all-over tribal print dress really makes a statement while a printed scarf is a subtle nod to the trend. Prints and patterns are all over the place from runways to retail stores and are offered in a wide array of looks that either add a sweetly feminine spin or show trendy hipster style. Florals, ethnic prints, polka dots... they're all cute, but not every print works for everyone! So while that floral print skirt looks great on your best friend, you may be more suited for a funky tribal pattern. With all the options out there, how do you find the time to try them all on? Let the stars guide you to the perfect print that flatters and shows your own unique fashion sense. Check out the slideshow and see what prints you should try this week!
