Who Will Take The Cycle 12 Crown And Become America's Next ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on May 12, 2009 10:18 AM PDT
As tomorrow's anticipated finale officially rounds out a whopping dozen cycles of "America's Next Top Model," I can't help but be slightly excited that at least one of my preseason predictions for the Top 3 actually made it into the Top 3! As surprised as I am that Allison and Aminat have made it this far despite barely skating by at panel for several weeks, and as sad as I am that Fo isn't going to be among them vying for one of the two coveted spots in the finale fashion runway, I'm still eager to watch the outcome of this season full of surprises. We've watched them fight, we've watched Tyra make them cry, we've watched them get lost in the slums of Brazil and inevitably be disqualified from the go-see challenge, and we've watched Ms. J's ever-growing bow-tie consume his face. And looking back on it all, all I can conclusively say is that maybe I'm not so great at first-impression predictions as I thought. So I'm gonna let everyone else put in their two cents -- vote below on who you think will be this season's Top Model (or just who you're rooting for), then make sure to check out the finale at 8pm tomorrow (Wednesday) and see if you're right! Your guess is as good as mine, if not better! Photo Credit: CWtv.com

Think you've got to wait until Project Runway to return to the tube before you get your fashion tv fix? No worries, tonight is the premiere of Bravo's newest show, The Fashion Show. Hosted by designer Isaac Mizrahi (you can definitely count on him to provide funny and quotable sound bites every episode!) and entertainer Kelly Rowland, watch fifteen designers compete to win $125,000 and a chance to sell their designs to the public. Each week, the designers will have to go through not one, but two challenges. Mizrahi and Rowland will also serve as judges alongside Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis and a special guest judge every week. But in the end, viewers like you will be able to choose the winner of the grand prize. Watch the video to see an introduction to all the designers and choose your favorite. Catch the series premiere tonight at 10/9c and visit Bravo for more info!

Feel Pretty Like Maria With Looks Inspired By West Side ...

Everything that€™s old is new again! West Side Story has gone from Broadway to the big screen and now back onstage in 2009. The epic love story set in the 1950s takes us through the journey of two star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria. They find themselves caught between two rival street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds, the Jets and the Sharks. Get ready for the big revival by getting the ladylike retro looks with a little bit of "cha cha" flair. While you can go the vintage route and get some petticoats and vintage cocktail dresses, there are also plenty of contemporary options that will meld seamlessly with your current wardrobe. Candy colors, nipped-in waists and ruffles help you get a little Latina spring in your step. Try a swingy knee-length dress with a pretty bow clutch and some colorful bangles for a totally Maria-esque look. Scared to go all out? When worn with jeans, a ruffled blouse topped with a colorful cardigan all cinched by a modern belt is a great way to dabble in the look. Still too much? Pair a flared full skirt in a bright color with a simple white tank. Check out the slideshow for some caliente picks and see the musical starting March 19th at the Palace Theatre in NYC!

New York Fashion Week Studio: Hanii Y's Vintage Meets Modern ...

I arrived at the Met Promenade a bit early for Hanii Y's Spring/Summer 2009 showcase, and was immediately struck by its bright white walls, digital art, and dreamy music. Once I entered and took in the production of the ever so fittingly titled "Sleepwalking Park," the aura in the room shifted, the crowd settled, and everything seemed to move in slow motion. Models stood amidst the sculptural pillars, draped in Hanii Y's signature vintage-meets modern styles. Structured skirts paired with draped tees, sheer summerweight sweaters in vibrant greens and yellows, and carefully draped toppers were met with patent belts, white oxfords, and chunky patent platform heels. Classic khaki trenches framed hot pink and orange chiffon dresses, proof that the neon-neutral trend will be sticking around for awhile. The occasional leather jacket and exposed zipper stood out as well, adding some of-the-moment edge to the characteristically feminine line. Click on the slideshow to see my snapshots from the presentation, and check out Stylehive members' favorite Hanii Y looks!

Runway Review: The Future of Fashion at Academy of Art

    image

Last week I had the honor of attending the brilliant graduation fashion show of San Francisco's Academy of Art, which honored Ralph Rucci and James Galanos. When I attended last year (we interviewed Zac Posen!), I was pleasantly surprised at the level of talent, artistry, and professionalism the students demonstrated. Needless to say, I was ready for some action this year. A student fashion show is one in which the designers can be more experimental, and inspirations ranged from claustrophobia and chaos to fairy tales and Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni (Google it!). See the SLIDESHOW for my favorite picks and fall 2008 trends (no plaid!).

Project Runway: Stylehive Interviews Last Night's Booted Cast ...

    image

There is one simple word that describes last night€™s episode of Project Runway: SHOCKING. The panic was palpable as the designers learned their models were replaced with real women who had recently lost a significant amount of weight. Of course, it wouldn€™t be Project Runway without a catch. This challenge entailed creating a beautiful new look for the women using their favorite pre-weight loss outfit. The new look must be both wearable and practical, addressing the woman€™s daily needs in addition to reflecting the designer€™s distinctive style. The shock factor didn€™t stop there though. I think a resounding €˜oh my lordy!€™ could be heard far and wide when...
