CollegeCandy's 8 Stylish Steals Under $20 At Express!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Oct 30, 2009 5:19 AM PDT
So, Express isn't cheap. That is pretty obvious when you walk in and the hot shirt your eyeing for your birthday party is marked at $49. But every few months, they have a major sale. And I mean major. The kind that makes you giddy and happy and willing to sift through giant over-stuffed racks because the deals are just that good. You see, Express marks their stuff down to really low prices and then gives you an additional 20% off of that! That is some serious saving on a lot of really cute stuff. It's a frugal fashionista's dream. And that dream is coming true right now. I sifted through the (digital) racks for you and pulled 8 of my favorite pieces. They're all under $20, so you can stock your closet without that annoying guilt getting in the way. I especially love these metallic ballet flats and this pleated square-back tank! Click over to CollegeCandy for the rest of the bargain highlights!

Hot In The Hive: Ninja Star Coat Hooks

    image
Alex Gambardella on Aug 18, 2009 6:19 AM PDT
Does your prissy Hello Kitty-adorned apartment need a little roughing up? If so, I've got the best thing to make your pad a whole lot more bad-ass: Ninja Star Coat Hooks. Made of super-strong nickel-plated alloy, the star is shaped to easily install into your wall and look as if you've survived a sneaky ninja attack right in your own home. See? Bad-ass. In fact, you're so bad-ass that after you survived said attack and dispelled the ninja from your pad, you decided to make a mockery out of his misfired weapons and hang your coats from them! True, most of your guests will probably assume they're just fun little decorations that you bought online ('cause you did) and ask where you got them, but they'll secretly be afraid to mess with you from now on, just in case.

    Price: $12.99 each
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Ninja Star Coat Hooks to the Hive.

Lipsmacker Exfoliants and More Drugstore Bargain Beauty Bump-Ups!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Jul 27, 2009 5:23 AM PDT
To look pretty on less cash, you could yoink your roommate's fancy conditioner and hope she doesn't notice. Or you could try out these drugstore and designer beauty bait-and-switches. Either way, you'll look so good only your stylist will know for sure what you did!

    1. Color formulas are generally the same among mascara products, so no need to spring for a department store version. Black is black at $7 or $20. But it is worth investing in a clean mascara wand or comb that you can use to separate your lashes before the cheaper one dries.

    2. Instead of giving yourself a spritz of pricey perfume, get a more subtle version of the scent all over your body. Spend less for the fragrance's body lotion or cream and blend with unscented generic-brand lotion.

    Coquette Says Gimme Shoes!

    image

When I lived near Hayes Valley in San Francisco, I used to get off the bus a few stops ahead just so I could wander down Hayes Street and browse around at one of my favorite shoe stores, Gimme Shoes. It was a little happy place for me to just be around all these beautiful shoes, even if I hadn't exactly left room in the budget for an additional pair or two. I'm happy to report that they now have everything online so even if you aren't in San Francisco, you can still shop their extensive and stylish collection! If you are in or around San Francisco, check out their two store locations -- 416 Hayes Street and 2358 Fillmore Street -- to see all the stunning shoes in person! Some of my current favorites are the Loeffler Randall bootie ($578), the Coclico peep-toes ($320), and these ruffled Rachel Comey open-toe heels ($310). When you're finished browsing the covetable collection, click on over to Coquette for more splurge-worthy fashion finds!
