    Influential International Style: M.I.A.

Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam broke into the music scene in 2004 and is simply impossible to forget, because of her lyrics, both catchy and intense ("All I wanna do is... BANG BANG BANG BANG"), and her unique style. M.I.A. seems to take style inspiration from all areas of her life - whether it's her love of prints coming from her past as a graphic designer, or drawing a love of dyeing techniques from her Sri Lankan decent. Her style is incredibly unique - and she puts things together the way no one else would, with a surprising mix of color, crazy textures and a great love of neon and shiny material. To get even close to M.I.A.'s signature style, you'll have to mix it up - bold bangles with loose-fitting neon shirts over shiny leggings with some bright kicks. Top it off with a hat and you're on your way. Check out my slideshow for some great ideas on how to get started incorporating M.I.A.'s look in to your personal style!

Amsterdam International Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2010: ...

This has been Elsien Gringhuis' first show at Amsterdam Fashion Week that she presented individually. Gringhuis studied at Artez in Arnhem and works for G-Star Raw denim at the moment. The collection she showed at AIFW 2010 looks rather strict, with straight lines and a minimal, clean cut silhouette, in addition to lots of shiny fabrics with very well made details. "Focus" is the theme of her collection, a collection about all the stress and chaos we go through all day and the need to focus on what really matters and what makes a difference in our day-to-day lives. Although it's not certain if she will produce her collection (she is still looking for ateliers) you can buy a real Gringhuis soon at Hema (www.hema.nl). She won the Hema design contest with a raincoat she made from biological cotton and rubber coating. Click the slideshow to see her show at Amsterdam International Fashion Week!

Shimmering Makeup Shades For Just A Dash Of Summer Sparkle

When it comes to summer beauty, it's all about strategically playing up certain features that pop -- and what better way to give your beauty look plenty of star power than with a touch of glitter? Now I know what you may be thinking: no, I'm not trying to make you channel Adam Lambert or force you to relive your preteen days experimenting with roll-on glitter gel and butterfly clips. Sure, shimmer isn't exactly for the wallflowers, but when applied with a modest (and steady!) hand, it's a bold beauty risk that pays off on any day of the week (not just on Halloween)! To avoid glimmer overload, stick to sparkling only one feature at a time -- whether you opt for dazzling lips or shimmery cheekbones -- and keep the rest of your face matte and minimal, for the most part. Over-doing the shine everywhere and anywhere may have you looking too much like a "Dancing With The Stars" contestant, even without the sequined salsa gown to tip you over the edge of what is considered wearable (and sane). Check the slideshow for some of my favorite glitzy products!

Get Sleek, Frizz-Free Hair With TRESemme's New Smooth Collection!

Ever wish you could banish the frizz from your hair style, and maybe become less of a slave to your straightening iron, blow dryer, and bathroom counter full of no-good hair products every morning in the process? Looking for just one product that does the work of expensive salon smoothing treatments, minus the steep cost? You're in luck! TRESemme has not one, but an entire line of products devoted to the frizz factor- or rather, eliminating it. If you need a quick fix, you'll want to try the Simply No-Frizz Spray Gel, which leaves hair 2.5 times smoother than what you get from using shampoo and conditioner alone. It works so well, in fact, that it actually maintains sleekness- imagine not having to straighten your hair for as many as five days! And when your newly sleek locks need a bit of finish, or you're trying to swear off hairspray but want the hold (but not the stiffness and gunk), spritz on TRESemme's new Frizz Shield Finishing Spray- it locks out humidity (which we all know causes frizz) and allows your hair to move naturally while keeping everything in place.
