New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Jill Stuart

For her Spring 2010 runway show at New York Fashion Week, Jill Stuart presented a futuristic collection that also paid homage to the bold spirit of the '80s. This collection had a very strong borrowed-from-the-boudoir theme- sheer fabrics and panels, corsets, lace, and dresses so short they looked like lingerie all added to the va va voom vibe. It wasn't all about the vamps and vixens though- there were plenty of softly draped white dresses that were definitely on the more wearable end of the spectrum. However, these too were sexed up with killer lace-up boots that looked like corsets for your feet. This collection was marked by micro-minis (like seriously micro), second skin pants, strong shoulders, sequins, metallics, and oversized studs, all of which added to the sexy, edgy, rocker vibe. My wishlist included a black shimmery backless halter, a studded strapless dress, a metallic draped micro-mini, and a pink zebra striped sequined dress that seriously caused my jaw to hit the floor. New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Alice + Olivia

Alice + Olivia is always high on my must-see list during Fashion Week. The amazing clothes, the fabulous Payless shoes that prove affordable can be fabulous, the creative set-ups and designs (previous themes have been "Alice in Wonderland," "Breakfast In Bed," "Hippie Queen," etc), and the celebrity sightings-- it's always a blast! To present the Alice + Olivia Spring 2010 collection, designer Stacie Bendet transformed a raw New York City gallery space into a fashion presentation/rock concert. Inside the vast space were three sections with a group of models in each. The looks were absolutely stunning, as always, and combined uptown chic with a downtown edge and an underlying Parisian-chic sensibility. Stacey set out to represent girls "predicating sexuality, cleverness and charm," drawing inspiration from the women who influence her. This season also marked the unveiling of the collaboration between A+O and jewelry line Erickson Beamon (I seriously want all of it!). Soft colors such as pale pink, soft purple, and neutrals were amped up with sexy silhouettes and gorgeous draping while other looks teamed ultra-femme styles with more edgy and androgynous pieces. Pretty prints, sequined frocks, slouchy pants, and structured jackets were also standouts, especially this one look that teamed an ultra mini slinky sequined dress with a short sleeved metallic jacket-- amazing! Is it just me or have our favorite paparazzi darlings been substantially more tame than in previous years? The years of booze-filled celebutantes inappropriately exiting cars seems to be as behind us as graphic slogan t-shirts. I have to admit, I'm a little nostalgic for the days before Britney's On the Record made feel a bit sorry for invading her privacy for the last ten years. So, in conclusion, let's encourage our favorite celebrities to embrace their true selves. Less Saint Angelina, more blood in a vial. I encourage these ladies to take everyone's mind off the recession and act out. What to get your favorite celebrities to return to their former glory (or the lack thereof)? Check out the slideshow for some tabloid-selling ideas.

Show Style: Meet the New Cast of 90210!

The Hollywood Hills and Upper East Side had better get ready to share the spotlight because on September 2nd, America's most famous zip-code, 90210, will be back! This highly anticipated revival will bring a whole new crop of West Beverly students with all new issues and dramas, but the same fantastically addictive underlying theme of which we'll never tire: even rich kids have problems! While we may not know much about the cast, both on0screen and off, just yet, there's little doubt that this fact will change significantly in the coming weeks! Until that happens, we can only surmise. Check out my SLIDESHOW to meet the cast and for my predictions on the style-roles they'll play.
