Studly Style Staple: A Pea Coat!

I have a very special attachment to my pea coat €“ and an even more special story to go with it. About four years ago, I was living in Austin as a struggling freelance writer (I was also an engraver at that store Things Remembered). I had been looking for the perfect pea coat for over a month to complete my gentleman wardrobe. I was about to give up €“ until I entered one of the local vintage stores right across the street from the University of Texas. I was drawn to a rack of coats in the back and as I sifted through them, I saw it: a perfect, authentic black pea coat. As soon as I saw it, I knew we were made for each other. I put it on and it fit perfectly. Without thinking, I took it to the register and she said, "It'll be $40." I reached into my pocket for cash and I only had $35. Thinking I had failed again in my pea coat hunt, I said, "I don't have enough." The beautiful boho-chic girl behind the register smiled and said, "You can have it for $35 €“ it's no big deal." From that moment on, my pea coat and I have been inseparable €“ at least in winter time. That said, every gentleman should have some sort of pea coat that they connect with. Whether it's a classic one from J. Crew, a sleek and modern variation from Oak, or a dandy creation from Spiewak, choose one that fits your personality, but at the same time, keeps you warm. Check out the slideshow for more examples of this winter staple.

Military Shirts, Because A Man In Uniform Always Looks Good...

The other day I was at H&M with my friend browsing the section of men's casual wear. When we met up at the cash register, he had picked up a gray military-style shirt and I, coincidentally, picked up the same exact shirt in green. I decided to let him buy it because I knew that there would be one day when we would both be wearing it and we would be constantly referred to as the Doublemint twins. That said, military-style shirts are a hot commodity right now. With finely tuned tailoring and shoulder-accentuating button details, I wonder why these weren't more in vogue back in the day. A myriad of designers have put their spin on the military shirt, giving us a variety to choose from. And remember €“ a man in uniform always looks good. Check out the SLIDESHOW for plenty of options.
