Vintage Fashionistas Keep It Together With Separates

    image

According to my completely unscientific poll, most fashionistas break out the vintage wear for evening. And that makes sense since anyone who follows celebrity fashion usually only gets to see their favorite stars wearing vintage on a red carpet. Who can forget Julia Roberts' stunning vintage Valentino the night she won her Oscar or Penelope Cruz accepting the award for Best Supporting Actress in a 1950s vintage Balmain masterpiece? Yes, vintage evening wear has tended to survive better through the decades than other pieces because formal affairs happen infrequently. But that doesn't mean that there aren't some plain ol' everyday vintage separates to be found. Check out this eclectic collection of tops and bottoms for vintage fashionistas. Khaki Suits Keep It Cool In The Spring And Summer

A khaki suit is like a refreshing beverage on a warm day. It's crisp. It's light and it suits (no pun intended) the season. As the cooler seasons come to a close, put your black suit on the back burner and go for some lighter fare. A suit within the color palette of khaki can look just as good and sleek as a black suit. Another bonus for the khaki garb is that a lot of them are sold as separates and there's more versatility with the pieces-- but personally, I like to keep them all together. I have a separate black and khaki blazer that I use as my fail-safe separate. With the Ralph Lauren Rugby Newbury Chino suit, you can look like the perfect dandy and with a classic Brooks Brothers two-button poplin suit you can be the refined gentleman you were meant to be. A khaki or tan suit has this "happy-go-lucky" vibe that shines with the sun. With the right shirt, tie and pocket square, a lighter suit is a must for the spring and summer seasons. Check out the slideshow for some of these cool suits that are a lighter shade of brown.

Paul Smith To Design Exclusive Collection For Barneys New York

There are stores I love, and then there are stores I wish I could love more. Oh, and by love I mean shop at. Barneys is one of those stores. Creative Director Simon Doonan has such a refreshingly lighthearted take on designer fashion that other high-end department stores seem to lack, and when the day comes that I lose all self-restraint and decide to blow my life savings on Lanvin bow pumps, I know I'll need plenty of humor to get me through it. I can count on Barneys for that. In the meantime, I'll have to focus my sights elsewhere, but when I heard Paul Smith was designing an exclusive collection for the retailer, I figured it deserved some attention! The collection of suiting, separates, and shirts, fittingly titled "Exclusive," will be available in Barneys flagship stores this fall. Smith had this to say about the upcoming line: "I have been privileged to work with Barneys New York for many years and so it's really great that I can do something that is especially for them and create an Exclusive collection where the designs are very Paul Smith." So what can we expect? Lots of striping, check designs, and velvet. So what if it's for the boys? You know I'll be there to check it (and the shoe section) out anyway.
