Embrace the '90s With A Drawstring Bag!

    image

Ever since Alexander Wang came out with his handbag line, the too-cool totes have been seen on celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Kristin Cavallari, blogged about to death, and coveted by yours truly. One of my favorites was the 'Diego' bag-- a drawstring bucket bag that would have been perfect with any outfit! Alas, it's been long sold out everywhere so I've been on the hunt ever since. Drawstring bags always remind me of the purses my mother had in the 90s, so while their modern cousins have retro roots, they're totally current and fashion-forward. Drawstring closures are handy when you need to pack a whole day's worth of stuff without jamming a zipper. Best of all, they come in all different styles from totes to hobo bags! I've been eyeing the Classic Parina Bag by Gustto in bright yellow. Urban Outfitters offers an affordable alternative to the famed Alexander Wang bag with the Deux Lux Drawstring Bucket Bag. Don't Be A Square, Get Your Hands On A Boxy Handbag!

As if you needed another excuse to splurge on a brand-new purse, there's a new fall bag trend that's bound to take the season by storm. Boxy handbags are cute, compact, and provide for maximum storage with their dimensions, unlike flatter square satchels that hardly allow any real room for your loot. Usable for both day and night, they can be vamped up with stud embellishments or look fun and fall-festive like this bright pumpkin-colored purse. While these boxy bags may not lie flat against your side like your other trusty go-to shoulder bag, their short handle and packed shape are the perfect fit for tucking under your elbow! Flip through the slideshow for my favorite boxy handbags for fall!

    Influential International Style: Chloe Sevigny

Chloe Sevigny knows what she's doing. She's best known for her roles on Big Love and in Boys Don't Cry, but also just as well-known for always looking cool and chic both on and off the red carpet. Though American-born, she seems to possess a European grace and polish to her clothing choices. As the face of fragrance for the house of Chloe, I know I'm not the only one that recognizes her subtle glamour. Her trick? Wearing neutrals and patterns that don't overcome her own beauty, and keeping her hair long and loose. To get her look, choose individual pieces with wonderful detail like scalloping or a reserved lace. Check out my slideshow for Chloe Sevigny style tricks! Photo credit: PR Photos

Green may not be the first color you're excited to wear in the summer months, but it is making a huge impression this year. Fashion editors all over are praising bold, kelly green shades as a perfect complement to summer skin, a light and refreshing color that works with many skin tones. Imagine carrying around Tory Burch's 'Nico' north/south tote for a perfect pop of green to any outfit. Or popping on this perfect green jersey dress from Myne Karlin to meet your friends for brunch on a warm Saturday. Check out my slideshow for plenty of cute, summery, GREEN looks, because they're not just for St. Patrick's Dayany more!

    Influential International Style: Jemima Khan

At first blush to all of our US readers, the name Jemima Khan may not ring a bell. However, the fabulously dressed British socialite and writer has been a fixture on the high style scene since the 1990's. Once married to cricket player Imran Khan, and a former long term girlfriend of Hugh Grant, Khan had her front row seat reserved at fashion shows way before through her titled mother, Lady Annabel and her financier father Sir James Michael Goldsmith. With a social calendar as jam-packed as hers, Jemima Khan is dressed to the nines day in and day out. Says Khan, "I couldn't define my style -- that's impossible. I like comfort and elegance with a bit of glamour thrown in. If I like something, I'll wear it for years." Great advice to only purchase items you really love! Blast From The Past: Jellies Make A Comeback!

    image

Jellies are as endemic to summer as ice cream truck jingles, kickball, and sparklers at twilight. For so many of us, the bright colors and strappy designs of this childhood staple were an early way to make a fashion statement, as well as a reason to beg to be allowed to wear nail polish (or sneak it when your parents weren't looking). We left them somewhere between 5th and 6th grade, when Keds or more grown-up leather sandals took over and jellies were relegated to either younger siblings or the "outgrown" bin. And, like going from lowly camper to bonafide junior counselor, you never really looked back. At least, that is, until recent years when a passion for all things retro and simple has come surging back and your favorite rubber footies have been reinterpreted by fashion favorites from on-high (Givenchy, Jimmy Choo) to the more affordable (Asos). Check out the slideshow to see if they can entice you once again!
