Go Back To School (Or Work) WIth A Stylish Backpack!

    image
Anna Yu on Sep 4, 2009 10:22 AM PDT
I love tote bags as much as the next person but lugging my laptop, lunch, and other necessities to work everyday has taken a toll on my poor right shoulder. So I've started using a backpack as my day bag instead. The only one I have right now is an old North Face backpack from my high school days. It's still fully functional, but I've been looking for something a little more stylish instead of looking like I'm going off to hike a mountain. Lucky me, it seems like backpacks have become a trendy accessory with brands and designers from Kate Spade to Juicy Couture making backpacks fit for every fashionista. While backpacks can be seen most often in school hallways, chances are you'll also find people using backpacks outside of school and work. They distribute weight more evenly than large shoulder bags and leave the crook of your arm to hold more shopping bags instead! Take a look at my slideshow to see some stylish backpacks you should carry around this fall.

CollegeCandy Wish List: Roxy Dandy Lion Bag

Cute bathing suit? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Awesomely colorful beach bag? Hmm... maybe not yet. Well, Roxy is here to save the day with its cleverly named bag, Dandy Lion. The bag is made of durable cotton canvas, and its wide platform bottom makes storing your large beach towels a breeze. It has a back wall zip pocket and a slip pocket for your small items (so your cell phone and iPod don't get lost in the shuffle) and a magnetic snap closure to keep everything secure. The bag is lightweight and big enough to carry your sunglasses, wallet, change of clothing, and all your other beach essentials (like, I don't know, snacks?). Personally, I'm all about the animal print bag in black. It's bright, striking, and screams "have fun with fashion " It also screams "don't worry about spilling sunscreen/margaritas all over me, because I'm totally affordable and you can throw me right into the washing machine." More great beach days, here I come! Check out the CollegeCandy blog for more of the season's must-have shopping picks!

Our Favorite Big Bags Under $100!

I can understand that you might have a hard time parting with your faithful old backpack you've been using daily for ages for work or school, but you have to admit that it's probably seen better days. True, it's comfy, it's convenient, and it's got all those nifty pockets for all your junk and knick-knacks... but is it really all that stylish? It's easy to assume that in times like these you can't afford a new bag other than a cheap-quality canvas tote you'd get for free with the purchase of some other necessity, so you may be surprised to know how many sleek, sturdy, and over-sized bags can be found for less than $100! Urban Outfitters has a huge variety of leather totes and satchels of all styles and sizes for super-reasonable prices -- some even have just as many zippers and buttoned pockets as that ratty old backpack did, so you can stay just as organized, but this time in style! Nordstrom and other department stores also carry more high-end high-quality brands that go on sale so you can snag them for up to half off! Check out the slideshow for some more big bags you can use for school and work to load up all your loot for less!
