CollegeCandy's 8 Stylish Steals Under $20 At Express!

So, Express isn't cheap. That is pretty obvious when you walk in and the hot shirt your eyeing for your birthday party is marked at $49. But every few months, they have a major sale. And I mean major. The kind that makes you giddy and happy and willing to sift through giant over-stuffed racks because the deals are just that good. You see, Express marks their stuff down to really low prices and then gives you an additional 20% off of that! That is some serious saving on a lot of really cute stuff. It's a frugal fashionista's dream. And that dream is coming true right now. I sifted through the (digital) racks for you and pulled 8 of my favorite pieces. They're all under $20, so you can stock your closet without that annoying guilt getting in the way. I especially love these metallic ballet flats and this pleated square-back tank! How Much Would You Be Willing To Splurge On A Shearling Moto ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Oct 24, 2009 9:25 AM PDT
As the air starts to get chilly and the leather moto jacket trend starts to get a little exhausted, designers are spicing things up -- studs, built-in belts, and of course, fur and shearling-trimmed collars. As any avid shopper knows, not all trendy biker jackets are created equal... so how to choose? Here we break down a few collared options from opposite ends of the cost spectrum, because depending on your budget (or lack thereof) and your insatiable desire for brand names, a suspiciously good steal isn't necessarily the way to go when you want an investment piece, yet spending a month's rent on one wardrobe addition isn't always in the cards either. Forever 21's Fleece Trim Moto Jacket looks perfectly chic, especially with its appealing $34.80 price tag... but of course, it's not real leather and I wouldn't bet my life savings on how long the piece will last you. The Motorcycle Jacket with Faux Fur Trim by Aqua is genuine leather, but is the authentic material worth the extra $265.20? And of course, for those who won't settle for anything less than the best, the Acne Rita 2 Jacket is convertible with its removable collar -- meaning even more possibilities for long-term wearability. But it also comes at a price. A whopping $1130 price. Which moto jacket do you think is the wisest deal? Vote below on whether you'd save, splurge, or go the middle road... or just scrap the trend altogether!

Recession Chic: Vintage Finds For $50 Or Less!

    image

The Commerce Department released GDP figures recently and-- gulp!--we saw the biggest decline in over 25 years. In layman's terms, that means that we fashionistas will be minding our pocketbooks for a while. But that doesn't mean we'll stop shopping entirely. I mean, the economy might be in a tailspin, but oh, the bargains! Stores are practically giving things away! I don't think I've ever seen so many full page Bloomingdale's ads that feature the word "SALE." And Macy's is advertising values up to $100 for the low, low price of $4.99! My parents grew up during the Depression and went through some pretty tough times, so I was taught how to be frugal. In times like these, you need to pay a little more attention to quality over quantity, choose classics over trends, look for items that can do double duty, and hunt for bargains. And vintage fashionistas can find bargains galore on eBay and Etsy! Just click the slideshow to see a selection of great vintage items that are all $50 or less!

Cheap Ways To Beat the Recession!

I don't know about you, but I get pretty annoyed with some of the media attention to "saving" money during the recession, with suggestions like saving and only buying one $1100 skirt. Gag. It's called, I'm always on a budget, because I am young with no savings and tragically hip, and it's always chic, even if the Fed says we're in a recession. Lucky for you, my method of quick, cheap updates is tried and true - buy cute, bright, flexible pieces that can be worn in a variety of ways. Oh, and never pay over $100. Imagine all the different ways you can wear cute leopard print tights or a floral hair accessory. If you can't, I'll explain in the slideshow! Happy hunting!
