Ginnifer Goodwin Wears A Dress Made Of Hospital Scrubs

If you ever get a chance to walk around the streets of San Francisco, aside from endless views of the fog and rolling hills you'll notice numerous buildings that make up the Academy of Art University. Since the Stylehive office is neighbors with an Academy of Art building, I've seen some super snappy dressers milling about the neighborhood. Based on their long history at New York Fashion Week, I know that their students will make it in the art and fashion worlds. And it already looks like a few students got a head start! Priscilla Guimarais, Kumiko Haruyama, Nui Tanapornwattana, Audrey Wang and Tramaine Tillman created a collection of sustainable dresses for a class project. "Big Love" and "He's Just Not That Into You" actress Ginnifer Goodwin wore one such piece from the collection at 20th Anniversary Environmental Media Association Awards in Los Angeles. Made of hospital scrubs, the fabric was treated, dyed and pleated in a fabulous strapless dress. The future is bright and totally green for the lucky students and I can't wait to see more! Donald Fisher, Founder Of Gap Inc, Dies

Don Fisher, the retail legend who along with his wife Doris, founded a single blue jeans store on San Francisco's Ocean Avenue and eventually, an entire clothing empire, passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was 81. His achievements transcended the retail category: as the store, which stocked Levis, records, and tapes grew into a now $15 billion global business, Fisher maintained a focus on thoughtful expansion and integrity, a sign that his philanthropic goals were just as important to him as his entrepreneurial ones. The road to The Gap was full of ups and downs, but success came in 1969 when he realized the need for an entire store devoted to pants, which was then the fastest growing classification-- soon after, the business plan was laid down and the first store opened, and the public loved what they saw. A lack of retail experience did not hinder Fisher in the least-- it only left room for more innovation. The Gap label was launched a few years later-- never before had a brand name used its store name. Philanthropy played a large role in his ventures. He founded Gap Foundation to help people in underserved communities worldwide grab hold of their futures, and was the force behind two of the most well-known and successful education reform organizations, Teach For America and the Knowledge Is Power program. As avid collectors of art, the Fishers contributed a great deal to SFMOMA, including their own collection. His achievements and contributions to San Francisco and the global community are truly infinite, and he will never be forgotten!

The American Apparel Flea Market Is Coming To A City Near You!

American Apparel isn't exactly expensive, but sometimes, shelling out upwards of $20 for a plain t-shirt is too much to handle- even if we know we'll wear it to shreds. But $2 t-shirts? That's an entirely different story! The American Apparel Flea Market is on the road now, and if you're lucky, it's headed to a city near you. Prices start at just $2! That's cheap enough to stock up on an entire rainbow of t-shirts, or perhaps prepare for multiple future DIY projects. The market will be at Arizona State University in Tempe today, San Francisco State University on Tuesday the 15th, and three more cities, spanning through the first week in October. The flea market is just for one day in each city, so we'd recommend getting there early unless you feel like chasing them down on their next stop! See the schedule and details on the left, and tell us... will you be stopping by?

Couture Designer B. Michael, Others Show At 6th Annual ...

San Francisco, California. That may not be the first city you think of when it comes to fashion, but on July 25th, they held their 6th annual Fashion On The Square event at the Intercontinental Hotel. FOTS is not only a fashion show, but also gives back to the community. Brands and designers like Fabulosity by Kimora Lee Simmons, Apple Bottoms, and Old Navy and childrenswear stores such as Gymboree and Janie and Jack participated in the show and many of the models used were aspiring models from the area. FOTS also supports organizations such as K.I.D.S., Wardrobe For Opportunity and Fashion Delivers, providing clothing for children and young adults, as well as Hurricane Katrina victims. All the support given back to the community is more than appreciated, but it is a fashion event first and foremost and the best part of the show had to be the creations by up-and-coming couture designer b. michael. The clean lines and sophisticated look of b.michael's designs were hard to miss as models, including ANTM alum Marjorie, strutted their stuff down the catwalk. Separates were a modern take on business inspired wear and evening gowns were fluid and elegant and celebrated the female form. Beautiful designs, cutting edge fashion, charity fund-raising, stellar performances... sounds more like L.A. than San Francisco! Check out some behind the scene shots and runway footage in the video and slideshow!
